Don't listen to the OOT nostalgia crowd, they only think it is the best because it was their first Zelda. :P *Half-joking*

If I were you I'd try A Link to the Past (or A Link Between Worlds -- pretty much the same game) or Majora's Mask. They are titles which people who didn't like OoT tend to gain a different perspective of the series on. ATTP because it does the OOT format better than OOT, and hasn't aged as poorly (2D sprites/Top-Down perspective >> N64 Graphics and Camera) and Majora's Mask because its compelling story and the side-quests still hold up well for games in general. 

Well damn, thats awfully short. I hope "it doesnt end in the traditional sense" means theres a lot of post-game content or replayability because I still want to play it. 

Should we really be including Shovel Knight? I mean, it's not a "new" release.

From the list, I can only talk about Zelda and Dragon Quest because I don't own a PS4 yet and will buy it when Shenmue 3 and DQXI releases.

Zelda would receive a solid 8.5 / 10
and DQ8 a 8 / 10

For comparison, OOT would get a 9.5 / 10 and DQ5 PS2 a 9 /10

I'd give Zelda a 10. It's the only one I've played.

John, these are opinions. I'm not blind to the flaws of this Zelda and yet I would give it easily 9/10, even 9,5/10. There is no ''reasonable score'' because you don't share the majority's opinion. BotW is a great game no matter how you feel inside.

I would score them all 0/10 and watch the world burn!

I'd give Horizon 5/5

I prefer 5 point scale as tend to say games are

1 - Terrible
2 - Bad
3 - Okay
4 - Good
5 - Amazing

Only game on the list I have played is Horizon and so far I would rate it an 8.
