Forums - Sony Discussion - Kotaku: New Sony Store Won't Be Region Locked

"With the new Sony PlayStation Store being a firmware-level process (as opposed to the glorified website of yore) some were concerned that Sony might take the chance to region lock the PlayStation Store, ending our days of Japanese downloads through the exploit of using multiple store accounts. Luckily, Sony has opted not to plug the obvious holes in their system. SCEA stated that, "no changes to the store will be made as part of this revamp relating to region locking." So consider the confirmation a small, good thing."

This sounds good, if nothing changes, for those who have multiple accounts. I know people that go to the Japanese store to catch demo's and such.

No region locking FTW. I downloaded the Echochrome demo off the Japanese store a few weeks ago and it was badass!

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Now this where sony wins some major respect points because they releised americans and to a much bigger extent europeans don't like waiting months for new content.

Nice one Sony if this turns out to be true! It is a pain in the ass waiting on something for the US store or the Japanese store to only get it month and months in advance!

The Echochrome demo is indeed badass though :D

Damn I already thought they would create a truly global PS3 store where you could buy every game. Europe doesn't have any PS1 classics to speak of for example. Stupid region coding.

Now THATS a fucking awesome improvement!

I hope this is coming from all the feedback about how measley the in-store selection was.

Plus, I hope they drop those damn Thursday updates and let the devs upload their stuff when they're ready to go.

good! region locking is gay.

same with games, i don't know why a game like hot shots golf 5 can come out many months ago in japan, but not till march in USA.

if they want the store to be unified, they can't use currency. that's why the marketplace uses points.

What? How do I use the other stores?

 @DOATS1

I think even the Wii (har har) has the processing capability to handle multiplying two numbers together to do a currency conversion. The reason for using points is to make you not know how much you're really paying.
