Forums - Gaming - What graphics mode should I choose for Horizon?

Tagged games:

So I'm a ps4 pro owner with a 1080p screen. I've got two graphical options I can select.

"Favor performance" and "Favor Resolution".

So favor performance apparently locks the frame rate pretty perfectly with enhanced graphical features.  But the frame rate isn't a big deal because even when rendered at 4k it's pretty stable.  So the only advantage really is the enhanced graphical features.  What exactly does it enhance?

Now favor resolution keeps the SSAA which the other mode does not.  How much of a benefit is SSAA?

Basically I see this as a SSAA vs Graphical enhancements.  I just don't know which is better.  Any advice is much appreciated!

Why not test and see for yourself? How would we know what you favor?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Favour Resolution. Downsampling is amazing. Foliage would benefit the most from that.

1 hour and two answers, this site really is dead at this hour lol

Going off DF's analysis and my own experience from a few hours play, there's almost no reason to go for the performance mode. It maintains a solid 30fps lock 99%+ of the time in resolution mode, and that remaining 1%~ is minor. Even if you're someone who values performance, it doesn't seem worth the drop from 1800pC to 1080p.

Rez. Game runs fantastic, even in 4K.

Resolution on this one framerate drops are very rare in 2160p mode anyway. According to digital foundry (I didn't experience many framerate drops either only one when 3 machines chased me and even that one was minor)

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

That's what I don't understand.  does SSAA mean more things pop up in game and appear on screen? How exactly does it work.

But what graphical performances does it enhance.  I don't remember ever hearing.

Your choices are... 4k (29fps) or 1080p (30fps).

The correct choice should be pretty clear. :P

All it does is reduce the native render to 1080p to ensure it hits the 30fps target. To the best of my knowledge, that's all it does. Given how well it already hits that its 30fps target in 1800pC mode, it's a bit pointless.
