Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Epic Talks Gears of War 2

By Colin Campbell

Epic founder Tim Sweeney has been talking to Next-Gen about the much-anticipated Gears of War 2.  In an interview, due to be published tomorrow here, he said, “The next Gears of War game will have improved physics features and new lighting and rendering features. Work on the engine will continue through the whole engine cycle. There will be major new features we'll be adding two years from now that games just haven't done yet."

Speaking on Unreal Engine 3’s future he said, "We can do more with networking to get more players in these games and get more complex physics working.  Right now we have fairly complex vehicle interactions, but there's a lot more that can be done there. There's even more that can be done with animation--further extending the integration between the physics and the hardcode animation. We have quite an extensive system for that, but there's a lot of game-specific work that can be done for improving human characters and their interactions with the environment."

Epic has also denied reports that Gears of War 2 will be shown in demo form at New York Comic-Con later this month, although Michael Capps, president of Epic Games, and Joshua Ortega, the scriptwriter behind Gears of War 2, will be on a Gears panel during the show...

I can't wait really. I just hope that the campaign is more than 10 hours this time. Other than that I'm hoping for another Gears 1 with a graphical edge and character development.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

Epic seem to be focusing on grahics rather tha gameplay. I would bet Gow2 will play just the same with only technical improvements. Still going to be a dam fine game though.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Will it be ported to the PC soon? It sucked for the 360 owners that the PC Gears of War got extra levels including fighting the Brumak

Agree on longer campaign. I'd like to see it go 12-15 hours with some variety of missions like COD4 did. I'm not much for online play so the SP campaigns are my focus. Lately they have all been getting really, really short. Here's to hoping that trend reverses with GeoW2...

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

I'm quite looking forward to this, it was the first one that stopped me hating console shooters, although it was a week after I got it that I took the celophane wrapper off.

again, i will say, the story sucked.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... As far as fps story lines go I thought it was above par.

I agree, I mean the only FPS with better storylines were Halo (and only just), I thought it was quite good story-wise, I just hope when they do the stroy for GOW2 they don't go overboard.
