Forums - Gaming - IGN Report: "Game Addicts are Autistic"

Great. Just what we need: more self-diagnosed assburgers' sufferers on the Internet.

Seriously, this study is BS. Asperger's is the new ADD: the neurosis that everyone diagnoses everyone else with. This whole "fad," if you can call it that, will subside in a few years, likely replaced with some other "in vogue" disease.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

None of the gamers I know have characteristics of autism.

Did they come to my house and examine me? No
Do they know how often I play games? No
Do I care what they? No

If there going to make claims based on a few experiments (If they even did any...) I'm not going to listen. I'll wait until I'm diagnosed with this disorder myself.

It wouldn't surprise me, but I'm no scientist.

How sad would your life and career be if you had to spend it doing such unimportant "research."

I pity these "researchers."

It's sad. I found the research they did at Oxford about if you got wetter in the rain running or walking the same distance more interesting.

Good to see this site is still going

This just in, Blind people tend to have dogs as pets more than any other species. also People who are obese, tend to play more video games . Also, they have aspergers. Also, transfat can cause blindness, and therefore people who play video games have a good chance of being slightly blind obese people with aspergers with a dog who is not allowed to be petted on trains, and develops social phobia and then aspergers. The gamers also have tourette's syndrome, and smell bad. And the dogs have fleas. This is all based on MAJORITY averages over 1 million people.

results are based upon whether or not we found more people in society to have at least one of the conditions as well as others as opposed to normal people in the society with just one condition. Fat video gamers make up a majority (51%) of fat people and gamers. (40% of our fat people group played games and 33% of our gamer group were fat).

i bet it was running.

i find that running makes my legs wet, and when my legs are wet (like in jeans), i am not a happy person.

Further revelations from the academic field.

UK, April 3, 2008 - This year's British Psychological Society Annual Conference is shaping up to be a battle royale of contesting parties screaming the head-smackingly self-evident. Following yesterday's chin-felling revelation that games are relaxing, a separate study has staked its flag atop the peaks of Mount Obvious, discovering that videogame addicts display behavioral traits similar to that seen in Asperger's sufferers.

Research, carried out by Ian Danforth of the American Whitman College and Dr John Charlton of the University of Bolton, took a predominantly male group of 391 gamers. Findings showde that players edging closer to addiction displayed traits commonly associated with Aperger's, including introversion, neuroticism and a lack of agreeableness.

Apsergers is a form of autism most commonly found in men, with some 1.2% of the population believed to be affected. Dr Charlton remarked that, "Our research supports the idea that people who are heavily involved in game playing may be nearer to autistic spectrum disorders than people who have no interest in gaming."

 That line deserves that bold/italics/underline.

Seriously they should have released the systems these 391 gamers played, it would have been great to find out which type of fanboy was Autistic XD

Maybe this is the reason why horrible games get great sales, they should have released what games the mentally challenged gamers played, my vote is for FPS!
