That kind of battery life is less than ideal, but I thought they said to expect about 3 hours of battery life for Zelda. I'd love all day, on the go, gaming as an option, but I don't think the technology is there, especially at this price point and for games of this size/caliber. Even if it was, i doubt I would often, if ever, take advantage of it. So all things considered, while I have issues and concerns about the Switch, this isn't really one of them. I am curious to know what kind of standby time the battery has, as being able to have it lying around or traveling with me and maintain that 3 hours of play time in between uses and charges is more important/practical to me.

There will certainly be third party solutions within the first couple of months, as well. Something lightweight that simply snaps onto the bottom of the console  would please the masses.

In the comments I read that mods said brightness was on something like 70%, Wii-Fi turned off, etc...

I think they will try to do a test with minimun brightness, so, we can only wait 

They said default bright which is usually close to max, but we'll see. Of course the wifi is turned off, Zelda has no online mode.

I'm not only interested on see the performance with this game at different bright/volume levels but also how it compares with other kind of games, because I have to insists, in my experience modern open world games drain the battery with no compasion on laptops, way more than "normal" games, i want to see if this is the same case here too. 

We already knew Zelda was around 3 hours (I think Nintendo themselves pointed out the battery life playing Zelda already), and I try not to be overly critical with this since the battery takes like half the console inside the Switch (which means they at least tried going for something decent); but yeah, it is very disappointing to hear that. My DS/3DS gaming sessions used to be around four hours, and I move around outside my house for more than three hours several days a week. The battery life expectancy is just terrible, so I guess it won't leave the dock for me and many others.

The battery life is longer or equal to what you would find in any laptop or mobile while gaming  to any demanding title and not every game will drain the battery as fast as Zelda.

I can play Dragon's Dogma for five hours in my laptop (provided I don't have maximum brightness enabled and lower the volume a bit), which is still disappointing in my eyes, but much better than three.

5 hours? i find really hard to believe that sorry, few laptops have 5 hours of battery without even gaming on them, so having 5 hours while gaming... I just don't believe it sorry.

Well don't believe if you don't want to, doesn't make my scenario any less disappointing. xD

I don't see this as a problem. I mostly play my handhelds on the bus to and from class. That is a roughly 100 -120 min commute round trip, and I can charge it at school.
