Seems like I was a tad optimistic after all... a taddy-tad optimistic..

reviewers are hard this gen on games.

I expected this to be a 90+ title.

Watch what happends if the next Zelda title doesnt get 90+ score.

This site would probably go ape-shit, for sure. Fingers crossed.

Cheers for that.

And could anybody tell me how Preordering a Digital game works. Does the game automatically start downloading on release date (if you leave PS4 on rest mode) or do you have to start it? im thinking of cancelling my physical copy and preordering digital so jus figuring out how it works.

Lots of times if you pre-order digital, you can download the game a few days early. You download like 99.9% of the game and then on midnight you can download the remaining missing filer something to make it playable. Don't know if PS4 has this feature, but would be surprised if they didn't. I mean Nintendo has it.

it's also the highest score (so far) across all platforms for 2017.

Any other big games released this year so far?

We're still pretty early into the year so there havn't been many huge releases, but here's everything i'd say has been notable for 2017 so far (ordered by score, with the version with the most reviews)

Horizon: Zero Dawn - 88 (PS4)
Nioh - 87 (PS4)
Dragon Quest VIII - 86 (3DS, PS2)
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard - 86 (PS4, X1, PC)
Yakuza 0 - 84 (PS4)
Gravity Rush 2 - 81 (PS4)
Halo Wars 2 - 80 (X1)
For Honor - 80 (PS4, X1, PC)
Tales of Berseria - 79 (PS4)
Poochy & Ypshi's Wooly World - 78 (3DS)
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 - 77 (PS4)
Atelier Shallie Plus - 77 (Vita + PS3)
Sniper Elite 4 - 77 (PS4, X1, PC)

All 77 reviews average to 88.402 total of reviews accumulate to 6807 points Meta can easily go up depending on which reviewers score it with 90s and 80s these won't have much of impact unless in droves a simple 60 or lower by itself can cause a drop, Uncharted 4 received 111 reviews but it's one of the few games that usually gets that many reviews likely horizon might hit 89 again and stay there unless of course a special snowflake gives it a 1 out of 10.

Pretty sure the PS2 version wasn't reviewed this year (and it's also above that xD)

That's why i made an exception to the 'most reviewed version' point :p I felt it necessary to note the PS2 version exists, but the 3DS version is the one relevant to the actual discussion.

Was not expecting a 50/100 score for this game lol. 88 is still a great score.

Well, looks like this is it, not gonna drop to 87.

What do you mean by this is it? is there no more reviews coming in or is it something else?

'cause I don't think it'll have more excessively low reviews, after Washington Post had theirs posted and it wasn't low (80).

Yeah but if we assume there are still 21 reviews left for it to reach the 100 reviews some exclusives get, then there is still room for it to go down if it gets a bunch of 80s, right?.

Are there any big outlets who still haven't given a score? Because IIRC scores from bigger outlets affect scores more on Metacritic than scores of smaller outlets.
