Not sure why are people so riled up about that 2.5/5 star review - actual review has a lot of valid points, it's just that score is bit too low...though, one must understand that 2.5/5 stars is not as bad as 50/100, star system is a lot more akin to movie ratings.

Personally, I find Destructiod's review quite useful, it's 75/100, but points to some of the bigger issues Horizon has as an open-word action RPG (though calling it RPG is a bit of stretch in the first place).

So you level up, you craft weapons and items, you can take on fully optional side quests that has nothing to do with the story. You can customize you weapons and amor and get different strenght versions of those two respectively...... yet its not an RPG? What exactly is an RPG then?

And I have an issue with destructoids review.... not just that it contradicts with a lot of what other have said (like its talk of the story and the uniteresting side quests and characters is a contradiction to the vast majority of reviewers out there) but also cause of the things its actually complaining about. Looting? and even more looting rare items? Thats the kinda stuff that makes a lot of other games great whgen down right and he says its tedious? Then he complains about the difficulty, then complains about the open world narrowing into some dungeons here or there (so now its a bad thing to have dungeons n an open world game)...... I could go on.

The only thing I would give him credit for is the human AI.... which from previews we have all kinda figured that its not the core focus of the game but thats still a legitimate knock.... everything else though.....

Personally, I hate it when a reviewer says you are doing or seeingnothing new (then goes onto write three paragrapghs of excatly what is new and diferent about the game) cause to me, if that were the case.... then what is new anymore as far as gaming goes?

No, it's not really - it's this fairly new hybrid of action-adventure and action-RPG. From everything I've read and seen it seems to me it's more similar to Far Cry 3/4 then to Witcher 3 (not that latter really shines with action-RPG mechanisms) - nothing wrong per se with that, I just don't like that action-RPGs genre is being watered down in favour of hybrids like this...but to each its own, I understand why GG made it that way, they're trying to reach as much audience as they can...just not my cup of tea.

As for reviews - I tend to read few of the good ones and few of the bad ones - that way I have much better understanding of what the game actually is...coupled with few gameplay videos it's more often then not enough to make educated desicion of whether or not the game is worth my time and money. In this case I find both of those reviews quite helpful.

that USgamer review is the joke of the year review.

Might wanna wait for Washington Post to review Horizon as well.

The machines and open world are too detailed and are detracting 30/100

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Wonder if they will find Z:BoTW incredibly original.

For a Zelda game? Yes. Sequels get a free pass, as long as they improve on/change from the previous games.

Horizon sits at the at the 131th position out of 154 games with the 89 score, right now.

Where can you see this info? Do they sort games with the same score based on hidden decimals?

I thought it was just me! VGC has been a nightmare today.

Wait, it's just been today for you? It seems like it's been shoddy for years to me.

VGchartz homepage gives me trouble all the time, but this is one of the few times I've had major issues with the gamrconnect forums themselves.

Games USgamer scored higher than Horizon:

Assassin's Creed Unity
Street Fighter V
The Sims 4
No Man's Sky
Battleborn
Evolve
Call of Duty: Ghosts
The Order: 1886

Its almost as as if US Gamer is a collection of gamers/journalists each with their own opinions and beliefs and not a collection of robots connected to a hive mind.

That's odd because the narrative has been highly praised. Are you sure you're not Crapgamer? I'm serious. You seem to mirror him regularly and even use similar terms.

Well, I read a few of the lowest in MC, and this seen to be a general and vage complaint that is aplyed to any open world game.

I belive they are not much into open world games in general or the pressure to review the game so fast can affect their enjoyment. That has been my complain for a long time, that a good portion of critics focus so much in traditional and linear narratives.

And I don't know who is Crapgamer nor what are his opinions.

Crapgamer is apparently a Youtuber who is very pro-Xbox. Apparently loads of Xbox users here follow him and believe every word he says, and yet only Gribble and a couple other non-Xbox gamers bring him up and know anything about him. Apparently Gribble even has his vocabulary down. It's very strange.

The first few months of 2017 sure have been remarkably good for the PS4. It's nice to see GG working on a new IP after so long of Killzone, so hopefully Horizon's good scores carry over into good sales.

Congratulations to Guerrilla Games for making a successful transition from FPS linear shooter to open world action. I hope good sales will follow suit.

I will get this game, just not too sure when. Mass Effect Andromeda is my next buy, so maybe HZD after that. Though I also want XCom 2 and Pillars of Eternity so they might come in before Horizon.

Yes!!!!! So happy to see this truly is awesome! I'm not an RPG person typically, but this looked really interesting to me, and I think I might get it.

Well done, GG! I had serious doubts about this game for a while SOLELY bc the killzone games have always been so underwhelming. But GG has very obviously stepped onto another level as a developer. Sony officially has another top tier studio in its portfolio to join ND and SSM!!! Now let's hope Sucker Punch grows as a developer as well and joins them.

next one to make the jump and has the chance to prove them selfs is Sony Bend with Days Gone. i think sucker punch are already a proven developer btw. they certainly arent on the level of ND or Rockstar, but they are great AAA developers.

True about Bend!

As for Sucker Punch, I wasn't saying they make bad games. The first inFAMOUS is one of my favorite all time games, but I've been pretty disappointed with the story and gameplay of every game since. I think they make decent to good games, but nothing more. Their foundation is great, but they just need to make some quality changes and additions to take them to the next level, from a decent/good developer to a great, top-tier developer.

This is exactly how I felt about GG. They had pretty good gameplay in their games and always created some of the best looking and most technically impressive games; but, the story and acting in their games was always subpar at best, and some other creative decisions were odd. I think they (and Sony) finally recognized their weaknesses and corrected them (e.g. hiring the writer of Fallout New Vegas), and it has really paid off with HZD. Think I might preorder it!

So 1 really low review can really impact the meta
