How? If you're playing you're not spectating, and it's only for private battles anyway.

thats actually brilliant. i could see this being used at tournaments, conferences, even just demonstrations to get some great footage of actual games. im actually really impressed at how far Nintendo has been taking Splatoon and just how consistently great all the new content has been. right now its my #1 reason to buy a Switch

The point of this is you have two cameramen, not just an audience of 2. That's actually a big difference because 1) the person watching via this would be able to see things from multiple perspectives not just one and 2) it would allow for streams of matches that focus on the match, not just a player, and also would not require a player to divide his attention between playing and managing the stream.

And for this feature, the app could make it quite fonvenient cause someone just invites a friend to spectate and they could receive and respond to that invite on their phone. Also may be possible to stream from that setup or record video from that setup too, if they implement that feature. No it isn't REQUIRED for the function to exist in its most basic form but it does make for something far more convenient. If they implement it in a good way.

Hmmm although thinking about it on a more technical level, what I described may not work. The Spectator Mode is basically two players spawning is cameras, it's two separate renderings of the game. Meaning spectators may need to be on the system. However, again, vould be very convenient if you are spectating to be able to use the app to send an invite to everyone on your friends list and the friends lists of all players that can be responded to in the app. Would be very nifty if the app served as a hub for all direct-from-Switch streams, meaning you can invite people with the app, accept the invitation in the app, and watch it in the app. Again, if they implement the features well, could be quite cool.
