Any chance? Even in the very end of the generation and after the next gen release like FF XII?

Final Fantasy has traditionally released, at least, three mainline entries per generation. Fingers crossed that they keep the trend, even if the chances are very low.

This trend was broken last gen. We got XIV ARR ( wich is great) and FF XIII ( terrible) and two XIII sequels ( what were they thinking?). I don`t count the sequels as mainline because for doing so we also would have to count X-2 as a mainline game.
Not a chance in hell, judging by how incompetently KH3 and FF7R are being managed.

The thing is, Square-Enix counts direct sequels as mainline entries, so they fullfilled the quota I'm talking about, even if it wasn't how people expected them to.

The main reason why FFXV was delayed so much is because they kept moving staff from Versus XIII (treated as a lower priority project) to XIV, XIII and XIV 2.0.
KH3 had the same issues, so I would guess FF7r is also considered a low priority project. I would also argue that this is more of a communication issue than a management one, with games being announced too early.
I expect FFXVI to be released this gen, and FXVII to be their last MMO so it might release this gen too if we are extremely lucky, assuming the next gen starts in 2020.
Edit : I also forgot how bad the state of video games in japan was in 2006 to 2011, except for Nintendo, while it seems to be going much better now.

I wish. Maybe, since VIIR might take longer than expected, they announce it for this gen.

Well, if they do, ok... But I think for this logic PS2 got 4 main entries, unless S-E excludes the MMO`s from this counting.

Yeah, I mean. There's generations that got more than three games; I meant that three games, at minimum, has been the traditional way. It will probably be combo-breaked this generation, I guess.
Hopefully but very unlikely, development times are too long now compared to other gens. We are getting FFVIIRemake so that should suffice... If it comes out for this gen that is.
