The good thing on PC is that you don't only have to look at Steam sales to get good deals for games on Steam or you buy a DRM free game and connect it to your Steam library so yeah, PC is superior to deals on console even if one service doesn't have great deals for some time. There is just no way around that if something is better on PC then the free online + deals situation. |
It's not as if I can't find a game for sale on PSN and then the options end. You forget us console peasants have physical and almighty resources like Amazon, eBay or craigslist. I could probably find any game that's on both PC/PS4 cheaper on PS4 with 4 minutes of googling. (Excluding humble bundles which have started making their way to ps4 anyway)

A lot of games are Steam only and even if you buy in other places, you get a Steam key. So you can't get away of the DRM. If Valve goes out of business you lose all your games. At least in my case, that's enough to keep me away from it, but a lot of people don't care. Also mind that physical console games can be sold or buy used, so you can save a lot of money. You can also borrow games for free. People should factor this in before claiming that console games are more expensive. A lot of games have limited replay value and reselling them can save you easily half of the price. If you buy a game in a crazy sale, you can even resell it by a higher price than you paid. You can also trade games with friends and just play other games without expending a penny. You aren't buying the same thing Steam sells. Steam sells you a personal license, so you have less control over the product. It's cheaper because it isn't the same product. |
So, what exactly has this to do with digital deals on PSN compard to Steam sionc ethat was the reason I quoted setsunatenshi?

Hmm... sure you can use GOG or the Humble Bundle store, etc, but I get the impression a few years ago there was a lot more to the sales on pc, and for quite some time I'm getting spoiled by weekly sales on PSN. Especially that now we don't have the rush of daily changes on the big Steam events which would get me refreshing the store every few hours.
But yeah, it's been a gradual change at least to my perception.

Well, but it was about PSN vs Steam and not about physical discs. Not sure why you all quote me to tell me how you can buy a physical copy somewhere when it was about digital deals^^

Even for digital deals, Steam isn't so impressive anymore. I use both PC and PS4/Vita, and usually I look at both Steam and PSN. Steam isn't always the best place to buy digital games, PSN now has some pretty impressive deals every week. It just depends on the game you're looking for.
Revenue and profit two different things though

While digital PSN games make you lose the hability to trade/resell. They should be cheaper and I only buy digital games when they are in a sale since I refuse to pay the same value of a physical game for a digital copy.
Anyway, the point remains valid since PSN games don't have always on DRM and you can make a backup and restore them to any console without losing access even if PSN was no more. So it still is more than the licenses Steam sells. More comparable than physical vs digital, but still not equivalent.
Anyone can say that this difference is not relevant to them and chose either option, but we can't say that you're buying the same thing in these cases.

Really? You didn't mention that before.

The only reason you don't want to count physical sales is because the PC has none, but that's disingenuous to one of the advantages console has! So you may be able to find better digital sales for a platform that's... digital only, but I bet I could find better sales physically in many many cases. If you don't want to acknowledge that a thrifty user will be able to save money no matter what, then you're too biased for this discussion.
