OK I've had like 6 people quote me saying " Female protagonist differant" and everyone is saying they don't understand. Did I word it wrong or something? I literally meant it's a nice change to having a male lead. What did you all think I meant?

its becuase it not different or uncommon to have female lead, coz there are tons of games that have female protagonist or anatogonist.. bayoneta, life is strange. overwatch has some prominient female characters. upcoming games like neir automata, Uncharted lost legacy, the last of us. At the end of the day it depends on the story in fact Zelda is named after the female character and u dont even play as her. So its not something new or different.

Just different to most games. It was the first time I watched a video for the game, and I thought it was different playing as a female. Can only really think of Lara Croft and Metroid who are females compared to countless male leads. This obviously has no impact on gameplay and stuff just something I noticed

Well, Ellie will also the lead of The Last of Us Part II as well.
Infamous Second Son standalone DLC also had a female protagonist, as Ellie was on TLOU standalone DLC just as well, and same with Chloe on Uncharted 4 standalone DLC that is coming too (Kat from Gravity Rush as well, but that started as a Vita game)

So at least from the Sony side, it's getting quite more common, though Aloy being the protagonist of a full new game and full new IP, that's one of Sony very biggest projects to date, yes, kind of rare to see, they are betting a lot on it.

Yeah true and joanna dark and large Croft too. But yeah males is far more common, evensuring animals are far more common then women

It looks beautiful, her hair looks amazing. But definitely not my type of game, the interactive conversations, Gosh... I wish they'd start dropping those sections, they're so boring and long and cuts the action, from adrenaline to falling asleep in ten seconds...

Anyways, it's going to compete with Breath of the Wild it seems, they're gonna be out the same week, will be interesting to see which one gets the better meta and which one sells better.

The way you engage them is even more of a design win, they have so many different build parts that react different to different things you do, and you have a lot of diversity in combat, both skill and strategy based, and all seems to be flawlessly executed. The design of basically everything on that game looks brilliant, I haven't been as excited with a game design like this since Shadow of the Colossus.
While SotC may be too much to compared it with, as SotC also excelled on the intangible as part of the design, like merging emotions passed by music, solitude, guilty, etc, as part of the actual game feeling, it's almost that hyped I'm for Horizon.
Reading the game world building is also "the star of the show" makes me even more hyped for its design.

Anyway, regarding also your next post after this one, yes, saying Horizon gameplay, which looks awesome, is already tiredly done is, not pun intended, ludicrous, but what can you expect after reading that "Uncharted 4 animations are wonky" when they are literally the undisputed best in the industry, by a long, long shot.

It doesn't get easier than that, just let it go.

I guess you are right. I typically avoid getting into "game arguments" because I try and respect that everyones tatses are unique. I just find it shocking when some people make certain kinda statements. I mean I get it if the person doesn't own the console or never plans to buy the game. But to hate a game for the exact same things you love another game for is just ridiculous to me.

Like this for instance; they look at The witcher and Horizon, yet say horizon has more in common with Farcry..... that is just shocking to me. Talk about cluttered HUD, when the devs have made it clear that the HUD is totally customizable to the point where it won't even exist at all. Some will look at a game like zelda and call it beautiful and original...... then look at horizon and call it empty and generic? How is that even possible?

Anyways, I'm gonna let it go.

With regard to what you said? You are totally right. thats the exact same feeling I am getting. I have not been excited about enemy design this much since SotC. Did you know how you choose to engage the enemies even determines what kinda loot you get from them?

BotW will get the better Meta..... then again something surprising may happen. But usually with games like Horizon teher will always be a fw reviewers that will give  it a ridiculously low score just for hits and cite things like too much grass or something as a con. As for which will sell better? I am leaning towards Horizon, but thats purely from an install base perspective.

I don't think the bolded part could be more wrong. And if you sincerely feel that way about this game then I don't think you have watched or read any of the previews.

The one area that this game shines and is different from any open ARPG out there is specifically in its gameplay. Thats one thing every single previewer has praised. Not a single one has said that it plays exactly like this or that but you will notice a lot saying if you have played this game or that then you will e right at home here. And thats before you even get into the naunces of its won gameplay loop.

In every open world game ther will always be a world map, towns, cities, NPCs...etc. Its ridiculous complaining about that because thats like complaining that aracing game has cars and tracks in it. What is and should always be important is how the game is played and how the story is told.

Horizon's hook is the lore and most importantly the enemy design, progression system and the combat system. Simple as that. This is a game where you have to actually craft the item you use to enable fast travelling everytime you want to use it. A game eher buying anything isn't as simple as just dropping off in game currency but also providing whatever special item that seller wants in addition to money. Where how you engage any enemy completely changes based on which other enemies are around it.

I could go on, but I am talking from the same previews that you should have also seen. So my guess is simple, maybe you just dont want to see what everyone else is seeing.

Uh, how can you know lore is one of its hooks without experiencing that lore and knowing how strong it is? You know what game was supposed to have amazing lore when it launched? Destiny. LOL. A lot of the stuff you're describing that makes Horizon stand out are in pretty much every other game. "engaging an enemy changes depending on which other enemies are around" is a generic statement that can apply to literally every action game ever.

And none of the games I mentioned are RPG's, they are all action games. If it looked more like a Witcher knockoff than Far Cry, I'd love that. Witcher is great!

lol @ the last part. Ok, whatever you need to tell yourself, friend.

destiny has amazing lore... when is the last time you played it?

the map is really next gen

kinda reminds me of Pangea

The game has also gone gold earlier this morning

I love it when a developer has this much confidence in their work.

I don't think this game will top The Witcher 3, but man its looking promising.
