Forums - Gaming - So is RE7 the best horror game of recent history?

No doubt about it. And playing it on psvr is handsdown my most memorable gaming experience ever.

But take it easy on the story elements. Don't want to spoil it for anyone--including me!

True, bit too early to post more. I didn't upload the version where I beat the boss, the epic stage 2 of the fight is not in this video. Actually it's just as much fun losing the boss fights as winning. You don't want to miss those awful deaths lol, and you get to do it again. I'm glad the game lets you make as many save games as you want, none of this 1 (auto)save that prevents you from doing something again.

It seems a bit polarising from what I've seen, but there are generally more "this is amazing" than "this is terrible" statements in my brief foray into reading about it. I guess I'll have my own opinion after I eventually play it!

Is the VR thingy working on PC with HTC vive and oclus rift?

No. Sony money hatted Capcom for 12 months exclusivity on PSVR.

12 Months!!??!! :O  bowwaa

First AAA horror game for VR and its an f g a exclusive. Sure not gonna buy a ps4 and psvr for that one game. Especially while VIVE has much better picture quality and my pc is more than capable of playing it on max settings in VR.

Way to go $ony, i hate u even more now!

Seems to be a lot of varying opinions. Personally I would say yes, it is. Probably the best first person horror game I've ever played and I loved Zombi U and Outlast to death. This tops them both, though I should reserve a bit of judgment since I'm very early on in the game and I am a bit of a huge Resident Evil fan and have been for a long time. That being said this game is absolutely mind-blowing with some of it's encounters.

As for the best horror in recent years, I might need to say yes in that aspect. I need to see how the story stacks up to the phenomenal Resident Evil: Revelations 2, which had a fantastic story that touched deeply on the series over reaching lore. It contained a major cliff hanger in the main story arch of the series that ties though most of the games. Interesting enough RE7 is not the only Resident Evil game in development, I believe they are working on two more. Probably a Revelations 3 which will bridge a gap between RE6 and RE7 and then likely something else to continue a massive story arch which will likely be 3rd person as one of our established heroes. With RE7's success I think we'll see another first person game. Rather it's RE8 or another category all together remains to be seen. I couldn't be more excited for being an RE fan as I am right now. Even more excited to know that those shitty Paul W. S. Anderson will finally be done and forgotten real soon!

As for people saying RE5 and 6 sucks. Sorry, but they don't. RE5 in particular was a fantastic game that was absolutely outstanding. Was it a horror game, no... hardly. But it's gameplay was rock solid and the story was interesting despite some terrible changes in plot directions due to game mechanics in its development. For those who are interested in that you can check this out: http://www.relyonhorror.com/in-depth/resident-evil-5-beta-4-5-information-lost-scrapped-concepts/ Personally I think the original pitch was better.

Okay, I think I kind of nerded out there for a minute.

He is allrdy forgotten. But i dont think he will be done. If RE gets his reputation back and that franchise has some value again. He will awaken like a tick from wintersleep to make more movies.

Nothing surpasses Alien isolation this gen, but RE7 is very good.

It might not have had VR for the whole game without support from Sony, like I just found out Ace Combat 7 won't :(
But yeah, still a dick move. At least they could have left it up to Capcom to add more resources for VR on PC. This is not the time to restrict VR behind exclusivity deals (it never is)

It's not like it would be taking sales away from the same userbase with the huge price difference between psvr and VR on PC. Although I don't agree with the much better picture quality of the headset itself, a good gaming PC could more easily power through and deliver a superior downscaled image at native 90fps. It looks great already on psvr though.

HTC Vive is still CAD 1150 here, usually ships in 1 to 2 months ugh, PSVR CAD 550 (+75 camera, +130 Move, Bundle sold out again), Oculus Rift CAD 850 (+280 for Touch)
