It was like crack for me. I bought it twice!
Bought it for $50, sold it for $35. Together with the VR segment, $15 was a good price for it.
Exploring in VR was fun. Exploring in the main game was fun as well, although a bit annoying with the respawning guards and fake barriers that need specific items to pass, forcing you to backtrack. I didn't pay much attention to the story, cut scenes dragged on and weren't very interesting so I started skipping all of them after the first hour.
The Baba Yaga DLC (was included) was the best part of the game. I didn't even know it was DLC when I played it, thought it was a great side quest, wanted more of that. The optional tombs were disappointing. Sure they look amazing, but it was basically the same 2 step 'puzzle' dressed up differently. The end game is a lot of shooting, not that much fun. It all looks great though, especially on ps4 pro.
I grabbed FC4 out of my backlog afterwards. It's basically the same game, with better game play. Hunting for upgrades, platforming to find/access secrets, but also vehicles, boats, wing suit and a little helicopter to use. FC4 grapple hook beats TR ice pick imo. (At the end of TR it turns into a grapple hook too, too late) Path finding in FC4 is actually a bit of a challenge occasionally and better integrated into the terrain, in TR it's all very obvious and sticking out of the scenery. TR does have the make your own rope bridge trick to add some possibilities.
Capturing outposts in FC4 is also a lot more fun than the cover based set pieces in TR. TR looks better, yet the ensuing chaos after getting attacked by a pack of wolves while in a sniper position stalking an outpost is brilliant. Plus charging in on the back of en elephant throwing cars at guards is also an option :)
