It's like Wii U, it's trying to be likable to anyone but in this case it's on handled size and trying to sell to people who like mobile gaming and playing PC, PS4 and Xbox One and also trying to penetrate smart devices consumer.

I don't think it's really seriously trying to get mobile gamers at all.

If it was Nintendo surely would've slapped a camera on it for AR games to try and capitalize on the Pokemon Go craze, the fact that they're not even bothering to include a $1 camera on it like the 3DS/2DS has is telling that they're not even bothering.

I don't think there will be many motion only or touch only games at all period, partly because motion games can't be played on a bus, train, car, airplane, or many public settings and that's a no-go for a device like this. Touch only doesn't work great either because the screen's touch panel is inoperable when used at home.

Games are going to have rely on traditional controls or at least have the option for them, in which case it sort of limits how crazy you can get with say motion.

I agree with u,  it's trying appeal to everyone , it's not unique, and not innovative, but it's still innovative on it's way, they trying to attract all consumer on one device (handled, casual, core gamers) , maybe the primary target are not mobile gamer, but it was made primary for people who like to go mobile, or they trying to put mobile concept   to oppose a normal looking consoles which has very powerful hardware. my conclusion it's still Wii U on handled size.  except for the hardware ( Wii U benefit from Power to oppose PS3 and Xbox 360)  Switch focus on mobile.

Switch's gimmick might not, but Nintendo's games definitely do, so you know, a lil' bit of this with a lil' bit of that.

If we're being perfectly honest it is basically an expansion of the Wii U concept.

The Wii U let you play games on the TV and away from the TV but only within a certain amount of space.

Switch basically just takes that idea and makes the system fully portable. I think even Mr. Miyamoto said at the NYC event they wouldn't have a Switch without a Wii U.

Wouldn't surprise me even if Switch began it's life as a Wii U redesign, probably one reason why Nintendo never bothered to make a slimmer/redesigned Game Pad .... they were saving it for this.

That doesn't mean it's doomed to the Wii U's fate though as being semi-portable versus fully portable is functionally a fairly large difference.

Yeah Switch concept  is how Wii U supposed to be, but at that times they dont have the tech and in hurry to releasing the consoles .  Overal it will not fail like Wii U. and i bet it will be beast in term of sales, it will have both 3DS market and Wii U market, and also casual from Wii era market, and believe me people who already own PS4, Xbox One and PC will buy this for the exclusive. The problem now is just the price. But i hope it will getting price cut on every year (i hope so)
