isn't Scorpio designed to play the same games X1?

They didn't completely rule out that it could get exclusives, however I wouldn't expect any until a couple of years after the things been released if it does get any... and by that point we'll be talking about ps5.

They basically said they wouldn't stop publishers making them exclusive to Scorpio... but what publisher is going to do that? They took long enough to ditch the ps3/360.

I see, I thought I had seem they making the same commitment that Sony did with PS4Pro but only saying that VR would be exclusive to Scorpio

Oh you're right, the article I read yesterday was later corrected by microsoft.

"Shortly after the announcement, Shannon Loftis, a senior Xbox figure, appeared to confirm that developers can develop Scorpio-only titles if they choose. A swift piece of record-correcting followed from Aaron Greenberg on twitter:"

"Great thing is with Project Scorpio as part of #XboxOne family all your games will work, no Scorpio exclusives, so no one gets left behind"

So yeah their current stance is no software exclusive to Scorpio.

But as you said, and I agree, there is nothing really preventing them from changing speech and doing exclusives, but that would tarnish their image. And on the same note Sony could do the same in like 2 years say that titles developed from 2018 onwards could work only on PS4Pro and not on PS4

We dont have sale numbers WW for Pro, but for instance on Japanese market Slim is selling almost 8x better than Pro.

I don't think xbox can afford to make "scorpio only" exclusives. You've piss off three factions. Xbox OG, Xbox S, and PC.  They would have to do Scorpio(I loathe that they chose this name, and the S. Makes it impossible to shorthand easily) + PC at least.

I know the Scorpio will support VR, while the Xbox S/OG can't.  Will those same games be play anywhere on the PC?

Well PC will have power to run any game they make thinking of Scorpio so they would only cut X1 and X1S, I do think it may be a very wrong measure, but not impossible to happen

Also, Scorpio will be a bigger step forward than the Pro.  This in and of itself will help Scorpio sell.  There's also the fact that people know that it is coming in 10-11 months that may have held down sales of the Pro this year.   I also noticed that it was often out of stock at my local Target and Walmart.  That could either mean it sold well so they ran out, or that it wasn't considered an important item to keep in stock.  They've also been out of Wii U for months.  So, I don't think it means much.

I got a Pro last month. I didn't own a PS4 previously.  If I already had a regular PS4, I don't think I would have upgraded to a Pro.  It's just not that big of an upgrade.  But, considering that I was going to get into the PS4 universe, I figured it made sense to do it at the top level.

I *do* own a Xbone, and I probably will upgrade to Scorpio.  Its not a big enough deal to entice me to pre-order, but I'll probably get one once I see a decent deal for it.  That's because (it appears) that there is a good bit to gain in the upgrade.

It's the same for me, I got Pro since I didn't already own a PS4, so I figured I might as well go for the top tier one, but I feel like if I already owned a PS4 I would have skipped Pro, it's just not a big enough difference to upgrade. Scorpio on the other hand I probably will buy in spite of already owning XB1, due to the fact that it will be a much bigger difference. We'll basically get an upgrade from 900p/1080p 30 fps to either 1800p/2160p 30 fps or 1080p 60 fps with better graphics (depending on the exact game and developer), assuming that MS goes with a Zen CPU or at least an Excavator CPU to reduce bottlenecks.

What motivated you to buy a PS4 Pro at all?

And isn't Scorpio designed to play the same games X1? And X1S will be cheaper than PS4S while Scorpio will be more expensive than PS4Pro? So the effects would seem even bigger

Yes, but Scorpio will have VR exclusives because XB1 just isn't powerful enough for VR. MS has also suggested that Scorpio will replace XB1 in a few years, meaning there will eventually be non VR games that will play on Scorpio but not on XB1, whereas it sounds like PS4 Pro will never replace PS4, both of them instead being replaced by PS5 eventually.

I do agree with it, but it will be a game of wait and see

i think the plan was to have the pro trickle along with the main console. no one expects the pro to outsell the main ps4

This is wrong in several ways imo.

First of all, the Play Station Four is also not powerfull enough for VR based on what is required on the PC side but Sony developped their own (less requiring and poerformant) VR (and I'm not blasting it, I think Play Station VR is just great and would love to see something similar on the Xbox One even if not as good as Oculus or HTC). So nothing is preventing Microsoft to do the same and I'm actually curious about those headsets coming for 200$ this year and see what will be the requirments.

Second, you assume that VR will play a huge part. Where do you get that?

And finally, where did you get that about the Scorpio replacing the Xbox One? I never saw anything like that. Quite the opposite actually from Microsoft
