Forums - Gaming - Ex-Ubisoft Dev: Direct ports from PS4/Xbox One to Nintendo Switch not possible

It doesnt sounds at all like he knows what is Switchs final and exact specs, or that he knows anything about Switch tools and APIs that Nvidia specifically made for Switch. So his opinion on this matter is useless, better wait on opinion of some dev that actualy knows facts and actualy working on Switch.

Hopefully the reveal will dispel this.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

Just 12 days to know the truth, to all the sony guys here you only want to believe the bad rumors, but a good rumor is always fake... hahaha is so funny.

34 years playing games.

Thinking that 3rd parties will make multi platform games from ground just for Switch is crazy, of course they will port XB1/PS4 games and not make same games from grund just for Switch.

I know this is going to sound like one of "those" posts but... I don't care. I'm so burnt out on the sameness of PS4 and Xbox One that losing their ports is welcome. If the Switch turns into another Nintendo-only console, I will be more than happy.

I don't think Nintendo is aiming for hardware that can match ps4 or x1 so don't go in expecting that out of the Switch, a console-handheld hybrid.

I welcome third party support but with titles built for the Switch.

Its "easy" to port but not "directly"? There was a couple of rumors that said it was easy.

They where lieing or talking out of their arses.

If you have to redo the game from the ground up, to make a switch version..... yeah... no way is that easy.

Sry but whole opinion of this "Ex-Ubisoft Dev" sounds like opinion out of his arse. It doesnt sounds at all like he knows what is Switchs final and exact specs, or that he knows anything about Switch tools and APIs that Nvidia specifically made for Switch, it seems he just giving his opinion about porting based just on rumoured specs without any other infos about Switch, like other details about hardware, tools, APIs... So his opinion on this matter is almost useless, better to wait on opinion of some dev that actualy knows Switch facts and actualy working on Switch.

It's obvious. You can't port a game to a console 3 to 4 times less powerful just by activating a magical "less powerful console" mode. PS3 and X360 would still have games if it was possible.

Of Course that porting is possible with scaling down and downgrades. Comparing with PS3/Xbox360 is not same thing, Switch has very modern tech/architecture (more modern than XB1/PS4 actually) while PS3/Xbox360 are tech/architecture from around 2005, also Switch is more powerful, and most important Switch is new console and of course new console on launch will get more support than 12 years old consoles.

Is this from a person who worked on the NS or just a comment on those spec rumours again?
Story is not very clear on that point.

It doesnt sounds at all he is working on Switch or that knows any facts about Switch, it seems he just giving his opinion about porting based just on rumoured specs without any other info about Switch, other details about hardware, tools, APIs...

Let's remember: people are eager to play Nintendo's games. They just don't want to pay $300-400 for the privilege.

And to expand on that, they don't want to buy two seperate devices with seperate software libraries, seperate online stores and no cross-over for virtual console titles. If you wanted to play Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Xenoblade, Splatoon, etc. than you needed both a 3DS and a Wii U.

If you bought a 3DS and a Wii U at launch thats $600 you spent to get the full Nintendo ecosystem. Even today, 3DS costs between $80-200 depending on the model and Wii U is still $300 so the total cost of the Nintendo ecosystem is still roughly $450 give or take. Switch is rumored to launch at $250/300 for basic/premium sku so its significantly cheaper than last generation.

Having Switch be so much more affordable and accessible than 3DS+Wii U gives it potential to add new consumers that didnt invest in the Nintendo ecosystem last generation.

I agree, the funny thing is that alot of people who complain about Nintendo not having multiplats are people who already own a PS4 or XBO.

its 256 Cuda cores / 2SM

"Thought by many to be out of date or fake, we can confirm that Nintendo has briefed developers recently with the same information."

  • GPU: 256 CUDA cores, maximum 1GHz

Don't bother. People will still say it's inaccurate information. Difficult to debate with people who don't want to believe the truth.

I think keeping expectations low is definitely the way to go with this one, though I wouldn't flag it as truth until the teardown happens. What if this thing has 260 CUDA Cores instead!?!?!?!?
