Let's remember: people are eager to play Nintendo's games. They just don't want to pay $300-400 for the privilege.

And to expand on that, they don't want to buy two seperate devices with seperate software libraries, seperate online stores and no cross-over for virtual console titles. If you wanted to play Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Xenoblade, Splatoon, etc. than you needed both a 3DS and a Wii U.

If you bought a 3DS and a Wii U at launch thats $600 you spent to get the full Nintendo ecosystem. Even today, 3DS costs between $80-200 depending on the model and Wii U is still $300 so the total cost of the Nintendo ecosystem is still roughly $450 give or take. Switch is rumored to launch at $250/300 for basic/premium sku so its significantly cheaper than last generation.

Having Switch be so much more affordable and accessible than 3DS+Wii U gives it potential to add new consumers that didnt invest in the Nintendo ecosystem last generation.
