Thinking about it, coming later 2017 would be better, if TLOU 2 is coming 2018. Ascension came the same year as TLOU and was really lost on its shadow. Sure, Ascension was a prequel and not as good as 3 was, and TLOU was a fucking massive hit new IP, but it would be better to give both of them more breathing room, instead of putting them close to each other.

Ascension came a few weeks after PS4's reveal and in the same month as the critically acclaimed Tomb Raider and Bioshock: Infinite. Also the single player gameplay was shown a month before release and before that they showed multiplayer gameplay in a series known for having incredible campaigns.
The Last of Us also got TV ads during Walking Dead while Ascension didn't get TV ads. Plus Ascension released along with two other hack and slash games and they all took some sales from each other.
