We have a 3DS XL and 3DS they seem to be ok? So Nintendo just makes a smaller Switch nothing extra to program for exact same internals with some limited changes to make it cheaper. I would call that a win for those who have no interest in the home console side of things

Guess you could just name it another "Switch" version that is exclusively portable in order to have it at a low cost and all. The way you said it sounded like the 3DS was to the WiiU. Now I think it may be possible but too early to say, it would depend on the performance of the Switch, and how will people welcome the new hybrid thing.

Yeah I often don't write everything that I'm thinking, bit of a bad habit. But yeah it would depend on the Switch's success and a bit of money could be saved by making a portable only Switch that has fixed controllers (just one battery instead of three) and a smaller screen and abviously no HDMI dock.

I know I see a lot of Switch vs PS4/XB1 talk, but what about Switch vs 3DS?

people, even if it's on the level of Wii U/slightly less, that is going to OBLITERATE ANYTHING we've ever seen on a Nintendo handheld.

Goodbye 240p gaming! Hello to portable gaming in HD! The Vita kind of got there, but it died 20 miles along the way. hopefully the Switch isn't left to rot out into the desert like the Vita.

In all seriousness though, I'm sure Nintendo will be capable of doing a lot more. It'd be nice if Donkey kong: tropical freeze got ported as well.

blame nintendo.

if nintendo had market NS as a handheld that is also able to output to a TV easily than this would be the comparision and people would be happy.  but instead nintendo came out and said "Switch is a home gaming system first and foremost".  with no other information to go on nintendo created expectations and is now failing to meet them.  it's a marketing fail on nintendo's part.

True, the jump between the 3DS to the Switch will definitely be huge, whereas the jump from the Wii U may not be

I've always preferred handheld gaming so this is why the Switch does seem very appealing

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

I've always been more of a home console guy, it sure is a nice handheld, I just kinda wish they'd stuck with the WiiU. So I wouldn't be forced to shell out £200 on hardware that's not really a generational leap.

But then again the idea of a shared software library is appealing, it's probably for the best.

3DS is like 4.8 Gflops.

Vita is like 50+ something Gflops.

The switch on the go, will be around 150 Gflops going by rumors about clockspeeds (and it being a Tegra X1).

Switch vs 3DS = 31 times more powerfull.

Switch vs Vita = 3 times more powerfull.

Your going to see better than PS Vita Level graphics on the go, with the switch.

The switch is looking to be a good handheld.

What I saw is that actualy Vita is 20-30 Gflops (apparently Vita is running at lower clock than people thought).

But have on mind that Gflops are not whole power of hardware, CPU is also much more stronger and Switch has 8x RAM memory compared to Vita, also we have genes from modern tech/architecture that gives strong real world performance.

Going from 3DS to Switch we talk about one of biggest upgrade in terms of power upgrade in console history, Switch is around 40x stronger than 3DS, and going from 240p to 720p, and fact that you dont two screen resources. Yup, monster upgrade going from 3DS to Switch.

I think a 3DS replacement is still coming I think Nintendo may release a smaller portable only Switch.

Why would anyone think a 3DS replacement is STILL coming when Switch is the 3DS replacement.

I still believe a Wii U replacement is coming.

Nintendo's portable consoles have been far better performing then their home consoles, and all I'm saying is Nintendo will likely release a smaller Switch model at a cheaper price as a true successor forthe 3DS. So those people who prefer to game on the go, wouldn't have to pay for the removable controllers and HDMI dock.
