I kinda doubt its true. More than likely whatever is left of Wii U stock will be in a bargin bin somewhere while shelf upon shelf will be filled with Switch stuff.

Is it better to go and landfill them rather than reduce the price though? I mean this is like saying it's better to throw away a product than admit you made a mistake with the pricing of it originally. It's such a thick headed (as a rumour which has zero evidence other than complete word of mouth rubbish) mindset that if people aren't willing to pay the extortionate price that they put the system at due to their own mistakes then the customer doesn't get to have the remaining systems at a lowered price but instead they would rather sink more cash into the system just to discard them and halt any budget gamers buying a console. |
I'm no genius in sales or marketing, so I ask you, why can't Nintendo sell the remaining stock through online distribution channels? Also, longterm stradegy, isn't it wiser to keep your name and reputation, as an expensive and world class craftsmen, than worry about pennies on the dollar? Nintendo games go up in value, not down. is the philosophy that they foster. Maybe it's foolish pride, or maybe it's the difference between terrible sonic sequels and good mario ones.
I remember when Dreamcast was sold for $50. It was sadder than just knowing the game was over. (I'm glad you pointed out this is a rumour.. today has been fool of them ;P)
