Forums - PC - Finally played AC Black Flag... How it stacks up?

Honestly. I've been extremely critically of the Assassin Creed franchise. I feel like it's overrated, repeitive, and a mainstream "call of duty style" cash in year after year.

With that said AC2 is one my favorite games of all time. I think the series got stale for for me starting at Revelations. AC3 was just a bad game. Unity was a broken mess that just looked pretty (when working); and I did not enjoy last year's Syndicate. All of those games had very poor stories in terms of characters, voice acting, and overall not being able to understand them.

I'm about halfway through Black Flag and honestly; the game is great. Not quite as good as AC2; but that's simply due to the story. Let's be honest nobody really cares about Black Flag's story. It's servicable, but nothing amazing. The gameplay is superb for the series however. visuals (on my shiny new pc :) are quite impressive for 2013 and overall... IT'S FUN!!!

I'm now hyped up for next year's entry. I hate to get pulled back into AC especially with Ubisoft being a peice of shit company. But i am hyped for next years release with the year off.

AC4 pretty much is Pirates of the Caribbean video game should be like and is like an open Sandbox with Pirates and Ships.

So its a lot of fun and the story is very sweet especially the end.

I actually want to play it again :)

I need to play my copy

It's a great fun pirate game. They should have had the balls to just distinguish it from AC a bit more, and turn it into it's own franchise.

Not really sure how playing it gets you hyped for the next AC though. There have been 2 entries in the franchise since, both of which you played (and didn't like), both of which moved in a completely different direction from Black Flag. Now, obviously the next AC could very well turn out to be a great game, but there's no reason to think they'll suddenly go back and draw inspiration from Black Flag as they're making it.

I've only played AC1, 2 and Black Flag. I only really liked AC1, overall setting and having to be cautious was what made it stand out for me. I find other two to be way too easy and more focused on combat, which was disappointing.
