Forums - Gaming - Nintendo Switch and NES Classic were Googled more than PlayStation VR, PS4 Pro, or Xbox One in 2016

When it comes to consumer electronics, most people search Google for smartphones — but video game consoles are right behind them. And Nintendo is leading that pack.

Nintendo’s upcoming Switch hybrid home/handheld console was the most Googled video game console in 2016, according to the internet-search giant. Switch is coming out in March, and Nintendo only just revealed it with a trailer in October. But it generated much more excitement than the PlayStation 4 Pro or Xbox One S — although, Google doesn’t bundle the various models of each system (PS4 and PS4 Pro, Xbox One and Xbox One S) for this list.

But it wasn’t just the Switch that did well for Nintendo. The No. 2 most Googled gaming system was also one of its own: The NES Classic Edition. That’s the hot holiday item that looks like the 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System and comes bundled with 30 of that system’s games.

Heading into 2017, Nintendo clearly has momentum. It could turn that into something big when it launches the Switch in March.

Here’s the full top 10 most Google consumer-electronics tech products:

  1. iPhone SE
  2. iOS 10
  3. Google Pixel
  4. iPhone 7 Plus
  5. Nintendo Switch
  6. iPhone 7
  7. NES Classic Edition
  8. Galaxy S7
  9. Playstation VR
  10. PS4 Pro

That's a quite achievement if we actually know that we got Switch name near end of year on 20. October, and that Switch isnt still available on market like other devices from list and still dont have any marketing from Nintendo.

Thats quite impressive actully. But then most people probably dont see the point of spending 400 pound on a slightly better console two years after i spend 350 on it. I mean people payed 500 fpr a xbox one only 3 years ago and its soon to be obselete. At least when i bought my ps3 10 years ago it plays games just as good as a ps3 plays them today.

Surprised Switch is ahead of NES Classic. Everyone wanted a damn NES for Christmas this year

No one spends money on Iphones...?

I would posit that these would all fare far better under these metrics if their 'code names' were included (Neo, Morpheus, NX). And Switch had this in the bag, really - all this time wondering 'what the hell is it that warrants all that secrecy' fueled those search results. (Fanbase thirst as well - Doc Dre and others probably searched it a dozen times a day for any new rumors. XD)

er no everyone and his dog gets them on contract.... like i said the shops buy em we bascially take out finance to get them, but we call it a contract not finance. Not many walk in a drop 800 pound on a phone

EDIT well atleast where im from any way. no buys a phone out right. Like i would happily drop 700 800 bucks on consoles, laptops etc but never a phone
