Forums - Politics - The right has its own version of political correctness. It’s just as stifling.

The far right can be pretty interesting. It's the faction that talks the most about Constitutional rights as unbreakable concepts yet is the most against freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and other foundations of the Constitution.

It's more like some of them think there are modifiers in there like, "freedom of religion IF you're Christian," or, "freedom of speech IF you're patriotic." The right to bear arms, though, should only be modified by an act of god and probably not even then.

Neither the left or right are supportive of speech they disagree with. But the left is objectively most sensitive and that was apparent by the way they went after Trump. Kanye West became a pariah for supporting Trump as well. Even left wingers get chastised by each other for not being sensitive enough to peoples feelings. :'-(

You're obviously referring to the right not being open to Islam, a religion pretty well known for killing people for their speech. The real issue is their religion being incompatible with our way of life in the west. Have you noticed Islamic countries generally aren't as open minded as predominately Christian countries? Well some people bring that archaic culture to the west and we really don't need it. Lets not forget Europe is also having issues with Islam. So lets not pretend this is just about them not being Christian.

No such thing as political correctness for the right, that's just nationalism or theoconservatism (which isn't necessarily the "far right" of today) if the author didn't know any better ...

Sure, call it "patriotic correctness" like it's even a new thing ...

It's funny how people here will automatically accuse the far right for it's past sins against freedom of rights but you don't exactly see that with today's far right who's actually trying to protect free speech! (the far right learned it's past lessons compared to the far left)

It's also hilarious of the author to accuse the far right of "safe spaces" like Breitbart when it's one of the many media outlets which is tiny in comparison to the mainstream media who hosts pundits that will readily encourage people to bully the shit out of people who even currently identify with the far right ...

The author has no idea who the right is if it's going to claim that their the ones going around shaming people when the right are not the ones calling others racists, sexist, homophobic, and xenophobic or hurling other insults at every turn like "basket of deplorables" while laughing at them ...

There are plenty of Christians that way too, same with other faiths. It's really a matter of country maturity: don't forget that very few Islamic countries are all that old.

Plus let's be quite frank: the only way that the worst of Islamic viewpoints take over in the United States, is if we nominate people with that viewpoint to power. Putting a thousand Sharia Law serious business people in Iowa is not going to make Iowa Sharia world: it's going to create problems sure but nothing worse than dealing with the Fundementalist Mormons or Soveriegn Citizens.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

Only in America though.

Political correctness is growing outside of America as well, and is an absolutely disguting thing! The American super patriotism is purely an American thing, doesn`t affect the rest of us, so let them do that if they want.

Eh, no it's not.

There are other countries that have a similar problem with over patriotism: ever heard of the 'Insulting Turkishness' thing with Turkey? East Asian countries like China and Japan have similar issues, and they lack European and American tendencies to insult their leaders. I am pretty sure Russia has issues like Super Patritoism too, but don't quote me on it.

I'm actually not.  I'm talking about everything.  Everyone around me thinks I'm Christian.  Why?  Because they assume that I am and I do nothing to change that.  It does not pay to live in the rural south and let people know that you don't care anything about religion.  When people at work rant about how prayer should be allowed in schools, how creationism should be taught in the classroom, and how the United States was founded by Christians FOR Christians, I don't say a word.  Religious bias against anything not Christian is a real thing.  I've even had a job interview where the owner started talking about how it was a Christian business and how he went to church with another employee.  When he asked me which church I attended, I lied my ass off.  Got the job offer, too, though I turned it down.  When you tell some people around here that you're not Christian, their smile gets a lot tighter and they get a lot less friendly.  Well, except for the people who are already considered disreputable.  Talking with them is actually kind of refreshing.

The far-right, trying to protect free spech? Don't make me laugh! They'd do whatever they can to repress all communist/anarchist/socialist promotion.

Uhhh... I think its fair to be opposed to those things. Most notably communism.

Meanwhile the left is trying to silence the right by looking for any opportunity to call them racist, sexist, homophobic, etc.

What Mr Puggsly said ...

It's fair to be opposed even if the right doesn't prefer those things but it's not fair to censor a person's right to freedom of expression, thought, and speech ...

If people think a little different of ya for not being christian, fine. Doesn't mean they're gonna force you to convert or cut your head off.

Liberals have often given me shit for supporting republicans. Its annoying but whatever, I don't get that worked up about it. I'm just used to it.

Why? Why is it so bad to be opposed a society with no oppression and exploitation?
