Forums - Sony - Uncharted: a tour into Hindu religious education

Uncharted Fans know the treasure hunt or story is based on something grounded in reality. whether it has to do with treasures of legends such as Kublai Khan, following historical figures or dipping into religious mythology / history / culture.

Uncharted 3 dwelved into Islam for Djinns, the city of Adh and other tidbits and now we have the Lost Legacy, a story that goes deeper into Chloe's Indian heritage.

The game takes place entirely in India and the treasure they are after is the Tusk of Ganesh. I'm not Hindu myself so if there are any Hindus in this site, please feel free to correct any errors I make or to add to what I've put in the OP.

Considering this is a stand alone game longer than Left Behind, but shorter than UC4, I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread so we can get an idea of what they are after and why the treasure is important.

From the little I've read and the tiny bit I know, Ganesh is a Hindu Deity that looks part human part elephant. Apparently the statues of Ganesh often have one missing tusk, and depending on which one is missing it can have a different meaning.

As for why, from what I've read, the most popular belief is that Ganesh was defending another Deity from entering the bedroom of his parents and doing so successfully until the other deity threw a powerful Axe. Ganesh chose not to dodge it as the Axe itself was a gift from a more powerful God.

From the sounds of things, if this Tusk is on earth for the the game, it will be very old, it will have political and black market value and this is why we might be seeing so much military presence in the game.

It would be great if Hindu members could shed some more light and other members could share their thoughts :)
