Forums - Nintendo - I honestly wouldn't mind if Nintendo never made another "realistic" Zelda game.

I dont understand. Did zelda ever have "realistic" artstyle?

No. It's just that people around here (this is not the first thread on this matter) are confusing "photo-realism" with "stylized realism".

I would, because they should keep doing what they are doing. And that is making games with a graphical style that fits each game. The WW or BotW style wouldn't have fit a Twilight Princess.

In my opinion, cell shading is for small kids only. I cannot stand Wind Waker or Ni no Kuni and will skip all these games because I cannot enjoy them which is caused by the art style. And I am not the only one, cell shading hurts sales and customer apeal a lot, unless the game is targeted at kindergarten age kids.

So by realism we obviously talking about rendering style, because Zelda's Art style and direction has always been unique and never just settled on realism.

I personally realistic rendering is such a surreal, haunting aesthetic (although didn't love TP's look), so I'm all for another reality game when Nintendo hardware is not visibly dated in that department. They can still add unique rendering flourishes but I'd be all for the below.

Though it would be nice to see an ultra realistic approach to Zelda (like a racing game), cel shaded games, and games with good art direction tend to hold up well (I also love cel shading on a personal level).
If we were to ever see a realistic Zelda related piece personally I hope that it is reserved for use in tech demos and film based media (though I am more than okay with getting a Zelda movie or T.V. show in any art style that Nintendo picks).

I kind of view Breath of the Wild as "realistic" I mean it's not exactly Wind Waker.

Suuuure... and why not drop all 3D Mario collectathons, and 2D platforming marios while we re at it?

You want to see Nintendo go under? >_>

Mario & zelda are the life blood of Nintendo... without them.... Nintendoooom would be all too real.

I dunno, people weren't very fond of the cartoony style of Wind Waker, which is why we got a darker, grittier game like Twilight Princess. And I'm not fond of the idea of sticking to a particular style. I'm all for whatever style Ninten wants to pursue with the Zelda games, whether is it brighter, cuter, cooler, and more realistic. It's not good to limit oneself.

If Nintendo goes under if they don't do Zelda or Mario games anymore I'd say they weren't worth it in the first place. What wrong with making new IPs? I mean how weak do you think Nintendo is if you don't even think they can survive with two less IPs?

Unique and somewhat admirable take but, that is like Marvel canceling all projects involving Spider-man, or Apple no longer making iPhones. Mario, Zelda and Pokemon are the biggest IP for Nintendo and consistent money makers, while you can argue about them going too much to those they are no different then any other company.

Edit: But back to the true topic, I agree, the cel shading look is the better visual style in that it doesn't require extensive graphic power to look great as well as can still look good tens years later as Wind waker proved.
