Forums - Gaming - Guillermo del Toro: 'F**k Konami', cancelling Silent Hills was 'moronic'

As much as i hate konami (mg, sh, and castlevania), i dont think this kind of comment is needed. Even kojima seem to already move on and prefer to be quiet abt his past with konami.

Are you talking about that not so good Evangelion live action?

No. I'm talking about Pacific Rim 2, which is now set for 2018 release.  He was pushing hard for the sequel to Pacific Rim. He directed, produced, and co-wrote the 1st one, and was quite invested in getting Pacific Rim 2 off the ground. Giving frequent updates to his progress. Then, out of the blue, Warner Bros decided to go ahead without him. I think they tossed his original screenplay in the proccess. I generally like his movies, and the 1st PAcific Rim is a fav of mine, so the whole thing as it happened sucks imo. I didn't even know about the live action Evangelion.

There is a live action, but I was joking in this. Because Pacific Rim is a Evangelion movie made by holywood if you really look at it.

Don't believe it can be said enough. #FuckKonami

He is right tho.

He is a little late on that new isn't it?

Just change 2016 for 2015 on his tweet and everything will be alright.

Perhaps he woke from a Comatose state in MGS

I thought you might be joking. Mostly. But my total ignorance to Evangelion precluded a gut intuition. I had my "feelers" out on my reply. :) Hey! Pacific Rim was awesome!

The problem, as near as I can tell, is that Kojima is that stereotypical artist that doesn't give a shit about the business side of his art. Konami exists to make money. They make great games only as a way to achieve that end. They have a legal and moral responsibility to take care of their shareholders. They don't have any obligation to let an artist burn through unlimited cash to achieve his vision.

When was the last decent SH?

Downpour was decent! Who's with me?!

I'm with you. I liked Downpour, but then again, I've liked all mainline entries on Silent Hill.

It does seem moronic that they canceled it. We could have had an awesome return to the horror genre after some mediocre games, but alas, it wasn't meant to be. At the same time though, maybe all that effort to craft a great horror game wouldn't have seen a good return on sales.

I liked Pacific Rim, but Evangelion is like 10x better and Pacific Rim is mostly based on it (like some american movies are based on japanese ones and people don't even know)

Yes, the business side is responsible to keep restrains, but some may end up limiting the revenue... if a guy have proven record to have fantastic project, that are expensive but get good margins the company needs to be aware of how to control the costs the right way without creating additional problems.
