| Alkibiádēs said: Monolith Soft is a strange studio. Nintendo doesn't benefit at all from them spending so much money on obscure games like Xenoblade Chronicles. Xenoblade Chronicles is my favorite Wii game, but Xenoblade Chronicles X is my least favorite Wii U game, so not sure if I want to see another Xenoblade game... The combat system needs to change at least. It was good in Xenoblade Chronicles because of the Monado and having to re-position yourself often with Shulk's abilities, but in X it just bored me to death. |
I wouldn't call them strange, more "misaimed". The biggest Monolith hits under Nintendo are the two Xenoblade games. Games belonging to a genre, the JRPG, that outside of a very few franchises is rather small, on systems that had a very different focus. Xenoblade Wii was cut off due to being so sloppily imported to the West, and X was released on a rather niche platform. Plus, Japan, the biggest market fot JRPGs, is not so big on home consoles anymore. So neither one of them had any chance of getting as big of an audience as they possibly could. But another JRPG on a handheld/console hybrid like the Switch could solve that initial problem.
