I've thought about this, and rather than buying at launch I'll just let my girlfriend buy it for me for my birthday or Christmas next year.
If OP rumors are true then i'll have a good starting library for the Switch.

Mario Kart, 3D Mario and Animal Crossing is my holy trinity!!!
I wouldn't be surprised if the 2017 Pokemon game is on 3ds though...
I don't see there being a mainline pokemon game til fall 2018 at the earliest, but I'd be pleasantly surprised if they do have a brand new Pokemon Game/Remake (not remaster) in time for the first holiday. I'd personally love a reboot of Yellow. Take some risks with the combat now that its operating on a much more power system then Nintendo has ever and they've already exposed Go users to a more reflex based battle system.

Well I think it has a very dedicated, core userbase. I think its one of the games that can be the difference between a certain type of Nintendo fan owning their home console or skipping it/playing the waiting game.
Whereas games like 2D Mario/Donkey Kong etc sell well but aren't system sellers. Simply games people pick up once they decide the Nintendo console is worth the purchase.
