amazing!! Mario and skyrim for me

This is interesting. For now, the main launch games are, in theory, Mario, Skyrim and Splatoon, plus all the smaller games they can get. Is this enough for people that own a WiiU to upgrade? I would like to get one at launch, but I didn't buy the U.

No. A 3D Mario is something I can wait. Not interested in Splatoon on Wii U, and that won't change on Switch. Skyrim could be, but I need to see more new games to be released soon, not months after.
Old Wii U ports does not make anything to me as those are widly available today.

That's the problem. It should be a Wii U must have, not a Switch one. |
Well that's not problem for Switch at all, that's problem only for some Wii U owners, but Nintendo long time delayed Zelda to 2017..

The same Wii U owners that are willing to buy a Switch, especially at launch. But as long as they keep pissing fans with idiotic decisions the userbase is going to keep shrinking. In the end, 0 is the limit.

Are people really suggesting that Nintendo should launch Zelda, Mario, and two enhanced ports in the SAME DAY? How does that make any sense, business-wise?
Also, are we assuming that Skyrim is the only 3rd party game in the launch window? How many 3rd parties are going to stay with the Switch if there is no time to release titles between Mario, Zelda, Smash, Splatoon, Mario Kart, Pikmin, etc. in the first three months? Beyond destroying the sales potential of their own games, Nintendo would be drowning any chances that third parties would stick around into 2018.
Thirdly and finally, since when has having a new 3D Mario at launch ever been a "weak" offering? Wii U launched with Nintendoland...

So Nintendo could end up with a user base of 0? Let's not get ahead of ourselves either way.
There's more to a user base than just hardcore fans. Nintendo still has its other parts of its plans falling into place. The theme parks, movies, tv shows, merchandise, mobile, etc. are part of the promtion of their IPs that can help expand these brands to greater audiences.
Then we also have to consider that there were multiple reasons why the Wii U failed. This includes marketing. Some have mentioned that people STILL don't know what a Wii U is. Doesn't help when the Nintendo section is stuck in the corner of a GameStop. So the user base technically is declining partly due to lack of marketing and awareness so Nintendo is trying to find ways fix that, at least the latter for now.
As for the lineup, I can see potential. Splatoon is a hot commodity in Japan so dismissing it would be foolish, considering most of this forum probably ate some good crow thinking this game wouldn't go anywhere when it basically saved the Wii U after Smash and Mario Kart failed to build greater momentum than they did. This would be a great launch year if there is more that we don't know as of yet. The launch date isn't the end, all be all. Some of the best selling consoles of all time didn't exactly go off to the best start.

Even if you removed the entire Wii U userbase from the equation the's still 60m people left in the userbase to sell to, if we say that every Wii U owner has a 3DS that would still leave around 47m roughly the same amount as the SNES total which is obviously still higher than every console that came after it bar the Wii, in fact only Playstation platforms and the 360 have sold more than that.
A hybrid device tbh makes the portable side far more significant than the home console side, as troubled as the Wii U has been the portable side of things have been really good for 3DS owners.

Fans will forget about Zelda delays moment game is launched. User base depends mostly of how much is good and apeling platform itself, Switch will definitely have much higher user base than Wii U. Also you forgetting that Switch is aiming 3DS owners also and other people who didnt had WiiU, not just 13m Wii U owners.

To be fair Skyrim is remaster of old game and its already out on other platforms, IMO it's important title for Switch but definitely not key launch title, Splatoon remaster will be great game for evrebody who didnt had Wii U (imagine sales of Switch Splatoon bundle in Japan), new 3D Mario like launch title is very strong system seller and probably biggest Switch launch games but actually for now only new game for launch, definitely we will have at least one or two more new Nintendo games for launch and of course multiply other 3rd party games.
