Forums - Nintendo - I Can't Manage to Give Nintendo My Money :p

I was just curious whether or not many (if not most) of you are having this experience... there have now been four consecutive times where I tried my damndest to buy something straight from Nintendo (amiibo, Majora's Mask skull kid, Majora's Mask new 3DS XL, nes classic), attempting to order them within seconds of their being available, and was unsuccessful. I, quite literally, cannot give them my money lol

I'm really not sure I've ever encountered a company whose products are more routinely scalped than Nintendo... seriously, go take a look at ebay, it's as if most people who actually bought the thing are scalpers, and it appears many bought dozens.

Ebay

I suppose this isn't much of a concern to Nintendo as they made their sales either way, but it has become so damn frustrating... At this point whenever Nintendo announces something interesting I pretty much have to assume I'll either never get it or have to pay a couple hundred extra dollars above their retail price. Seeing a little, novelty "console" actually SELLING (check the ebay pages I linked, it shows how many have sold) at around $380 when it retailed originally at $60 just makes me queasy, as I know some people out there who contributed nothing to the manufacturing or distrubution process are quite literally making a living off of being parasitic assholes.

Have you guys seen this happen anywhere else? I'm sure there's some things out there that result in heavy scalping, but Nintendo products really seem uniquely terrible in this regard.

*Edit* Just checked my link and the top listed scalper on eBay who was selling them at $380 apparently sold all of them and is no longer listed. Still, from what I'm seeing that's actually one of the "better deals" on eBay at the moment, and they're continuing to sell anyway for a novelty toy that was originally worth $60.

Wont they do any re-releases?

They've had a couple so far so I'm hoping they'll continue to do them. In the past I assumed if I waited long enough the scalper prices would fall back down towards retail, but Nintendo tends not to produce enough for it ever to reach that point (I'm still holding out on the new 3ds XL as the majoras mask version is still upwards of $300 on ebay).

I hope they decide to actually manufacture enough of these that, at the very least, ebay becomes flooded enough to drive the prices down sub $100. Just not holding my breath. :p

Yes, they already confirmed it.They will restock as soon as possible, and try to keep producing during holidays and after new year.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

What? Are you sure those were dollars?

The thing sold like crazy. I really want to see the actual numbers, I'm surprised. This could be a win for Nintendo.

I imagine you are vastly overestimating how many of these Nintendo produced. This is a side thing to keep people invested in Nintendo until the Switch launches; it isn't meant to be an amazing money maker. As it stands, the NES Classic is the type of thing a person will play for a week and then probably shove in a closet, reserving it for the most uncertain of boring days.
