MikeB said: The exclusive episodes for the 360 are nice, but offers no real system selling potential. Free online multiplayer, free Home integration + DLC, no disc scratching / RRod worries, alledged better graphics for the PS3 version, no annoying drive noise, etc should be of greater importance.
A PS2 GTA fan will probably prefer the PS3 controller which is very similar to the PS2 controller, also all major PS2 exclusives (Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, The Getaway, Jak & Daxter, God of War, etc, etc) are more or less all comfirmed to come to the PS3 exclusively.
Really... Does nobody here see there are some very strong points to the advantage of the PS3 summarized above? IMO much stronger than the 2 non-free future espisodes nobody knows anything about and cheaper entry price (but lots of hidden costs as well as much lower entry specifications). |
Here are some comments on the things you listed:
1- Free online multiplayer - will be an issue for some people, although the 360 is so cheap now that you can get Xbox Gold for a few years while still saving money in relation to the PS3. I have no idea how many GTA4 players really are interest in online play
2- Free home integration - this won't influence sales at all unless Sony advertises it before GTA4, which I doubt.
3- DLC - no DLC is confirmed or expected for the PS3 version, so forget that too.
4- no disc scratching / RROD worries / annoying drive noise- will certainly have weight for many people due to bad reputation, even though it doesn't seem to be much of a problem with newly produced 360s.
5- alleged better graphics for the PS3 - not confirmed, and most people don't know about that, so it won't influence sales.
6- people who don't want other controllers / want PS3's other exclusives - important for some people, although the overlap of those gamers with GTA4 buyers is unknown
There are certainly some important points in favor of the PS3 (especially in Europe), but we can't really tell the impact. In the end, it may come down to the status quo being maintained - PS3 hardware being higher in Europe, and 360 hardware being higher in America (especially with the supposed recession creating cost-aware consumers).
America and Europe may negate each other in terms of PS3/360 hardware sales, but I'd be very surprised if 360's bigger userbase didn't give it a big advantage in terms of GTA4 software sales.
