For 19 I was thinking in Marvel vs Capcom 2, BUT, MvsC didn't release on PS2, if I'm not wrong, so I don't know... wait: Kingdom Hearts II???

Kingdom Hearts II indeed.

Of course the "should never have worked" was a really clear hint, but I had my focus wrong...

#24 and #22 was Maximo VS Army Of Zin and Odin Sphere Leifthrasir.

Hints for the next 2:

#19. This game returned to its roots in 2008 with this 9th installment.

#18. A great platformer that's literally out of this world.

#19: Mega Man 9

#18: I think not, but, Super Mario Galaxy?

Both right

Mostly done with school now so it's time for a big update block, I'll (try to) keep each game to about a sentence each so I don't end up writing an essay.

#38. Danganronpa

Great VN, somewhat similar to the Ace Attorney series with the class trials but Danganronpa manages to do its own thing like shooting words with bullets. It's the name of the game, character interactions are also a highlight.

#37. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations

The end of the first AA trilogy is a strong one. The overall quality of the cases is higher compared to the previous two games, Godot is much more interesting than von Karma and the overarching story that ties three of the cases together is a welcome edition which strengthens the overall story.

#36. Super Smash Bros. 4

Big improvement in gameplay over Brawl but huge dissapointment in the single player department, but it hits the right notes where it counts most. Smash 4 also manages to have a near dreamlike character cast with Nintendo characters duking off against other big gaming figures such as Cloud, Pac-Man, Ryu, Sonic and Mega Man.

#35. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

At its core, ALBW runs on the spirit of ALTTP with the same world and the light and dark world concept. ALBW goes a step further beyond being just a remake with a new item collection system and the ability to turn into a painting which I enjoyed a lot. This was the first Zelda I got 100% completion in, so that says something.

#34. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I think everyone at this point has played Skyrim or at least know what this game is about. What I like about Skyrim is the variety of things that you can do and the vastness of the world.

#33. Persona 4

A little JRPG that came out on the PS2 in 2008, Persona 4 manages to be a pretty great game. While the setting is pretty small and the gameplay is not groundbreaking, the characters are memorable, the atmosphere is there and the gameplay is pretty fun.

#32. Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal (HeartGold/SoulSilver)

Pokemon GSC takes everything from the first generation and does everything better and as an added bonus, Kanto is bonus post-game content. The post-game alone would have earned it this spot since no Pokemon game since has managed to do something like this.

#31. Super Smash Bros. Melee

A more simple game to pick up and play than Smash 4 but also a game with an insanely high skill ceiling. This is probably why Melee manages to still be one of the top Smash games being played 15 years later. It's also one of the few eSport games that I like to watch.

#30. Halo 2

I recently just replayed Halo 2 with the MCC Collection and I enjoyed it on my replay more than the first time playing it by myself. While the levels aren't as good as Halo CE or Halo 3, its still a solid game and new weapons introduced such as, the energy sword, have become more of my favourites in the series.

#29. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

A Link to the Past took everything that made Zelda 1 good and made everything so much better. The overall structure of LTTP also became the base for all the 3D Zelda games that followed. Overall its a pretty simple but vast game and it continues to hold up fairly well today.

#28. Team Fortress 2

At the time, TF2 represented a dying breed of FPS games, as the genre was moving more towards the standard set by Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Now it's been almost 10 years and still going strong. TF2 has always been a game that is easy to pick up but difficult to master and given the sheer amount of content, there is almost infinite replayability.

I'll add the rest later and then I should be all caught up

23 – Victoria

My first game at Victoria was terrible: I started in the Great War scenario with Austria-Hungary (why? I have no idea; I supposed that playing with a medium power was a good way to start…). Of course I found myself ruined and with half of my country invaded by Russia before I had been able to understand how to change between the different map layers. Paradox games are not to take lightly! Fortunately, I continue playing (different games and scenarios), and losing, until suddenly everything started to click and I was able to play successfully.

Like in other Grand Strategy games, Victoria demands multitasking and attention to the different layers of the game: you have to keep your finance balanced, but be careful with the taxes not to destroy your wealthier classes, keep good relations with your neighbors and prepared to war, investigate in areas that will bring prestige to your country, but without relegating the military investigation needed to not fall behind, develop infrastructures, factories and colonies… Doing so is difficult but highly rewarding, and a process of never-ending learning. As a History lover, this game was also a great chance to learn about XIXth century historical events (every time I talk about Piratini Republic people tend to look at me weirdly, but I’m not worried)

Actually I never fully dominated the game, but I was able to play some successful enough games (As reconquering part of America (and, for some reason I don’t remember, Greece) with Spain, maintaining a wealthy Empire in Central Europe with Austria, unifying Italy with Piedmont (and avoiding it with the Two Sicilies) and keeping Thailand independent. I was even able to defeat the cheating IA in the Great War scenario both with France and Germany. The VIP mod was also a great improvement for the game (although it increased greatly the resources needed to create an army), including new countries and a huge lot of historical events.

22 – Yoshi’s Story

I know, I know, Yoshi’s Story has a bad reputation, but I can’t help to appreciate it. First of all, it’s the game that made me ask my parents a Nintendo 64: After seeing a gorgeous image of the game I felt that I needed to play it. Also, I was in the perfect age to appreciate it, since I didn’t mind the game’s exiguous difficulty. Also, I didn’t have a SNES, so I skipped the original Yoshi’s island (I’m trying to fix that, but I haven’t played it yetL)

Ok, let’s start my apology with the most obvious virtue of the game: it’s very beautiful. The pre-rendered graphics simulate different materials in order to create gorgeous levels that seem to have been hand-crafted. In a generation fascinated with the 3-D transition, Yoshi’s Story demonstrated that 2-D games could still offer a lot of graphical awesomeness. Also, it features Yoshi, that’s always a 10 out of 10 in my book.

One of the main fails of the game is that it’s very easy and short. About difficulty level, there’s no doubt: the game is really easy (Yes, there’s a boss that gives Yoshi health each time you lick him, and the Final Battle scenario has a tree whose fruits make Yoshi invincible), but I was just a kid when I played so I didn’t mind (actually, the game was clearly targeted to kids like me). About shortness, yes, 24 levels are too few, and you just need to clear 6 in order to beat the game. But as in many Nintendo games, the key in this game is trying to find all secrets and maximizing the punctuation. While the story mode is the one where the player unlocks the different levels and the additional yoshis, trial mode is perfect to replay each level trying to do the best score. Well, I know that not everybody would enjoy it, but I spent hundreds of hours replaying its 24 levels, and I enjoyed it.

Of course, I know the game is not perfect, but I liked it a lot. I think that its focus in exploration instead of ability could have been a great way to revive the 2D platformers, in the lower moment of the genre. The fact that the game didn’t succeed was (deservedly, I know), in my opinion, a missed opportunity.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves as guessed by mZuzek

The 'Uncharted' series was one of the best things to come out of the 7th Generation and some might say it really was the best period. Maybe I am part of that "some". 'Uncharted 2' was the epitome where everything seemed to have fallen right into place and was polished up as shiny as possible.

The series is undoubtedly inspired by adventure movies and games like Indiana Jones and the original Tomb Raider respectively, but does enough to be unique in it's own right. And that's a good thing. In the second game, protagonist Nathan Drake follows in the footsteps of renaissance explorer Marco Polo and tries to find the mystical city of "Shambala", said to contain countless riches, among which a precious stone. The quest takes Drake through a variety of locales from Istanbul to Borneo to Nepal, all gorgeously portrayed.

After having played the first game, which was already impressive, the second game really took it all the way and made the first game look outdated pretty much immediately. Not in a bad way, mind, the first game remains wonderful, but I was blown away by every minute of the second game and each level remains memorable like a true classic should be. It's successors are also great, but none touch this one.

Hint #23 - Another spin-off. This one a turn based RPG, but later on the series loses its love...
It takes place in *ahem* a flat world.

Hint #22 - The first real 3D Mario.

#23 Paper Mario

#22 Super Mario 3D Land

Ayy

...I'm falling behind here. Gonna have to make like 10 posts in a row eventually, so I'm prematurely apologizing. Anyways...

#19 - A lot of this game's story revolves around a moral conflict between truth and ideals.
#18 - This fourth game in the series came 8 years after the third one closed the original trilogy, and remains up to this day the last game in the mainline series (although there have been spin-offs since, with one particularly successful spin-off franchise).

19 - Pokemon Black White?
