Forums - Nintendo - Will Sun and Moon be the last mainline Pokemon games for 3DS?

I was gonna post what the interview states already, so I'll chime in with some other thoughts.

I think that the following games after Sun and Moon will be the next pair of games due for remakes, Diamond/ Pearl? So, 100% those will come out for 3DS. DS got Pokemon games way after 3DS came out. You have to remember, 3DS didn't get any mainline Pokemon games until holiday 2013, almost three years after it came to market.

So, 3DS will definitely get Pokemon support after Switch comes out, at least the first year or two. The real question is, since Switch doubles as a handheld, will Switch get upgraded ports of these remakes, or whatever comes next with Pokemon? Or will Nintendo hold off on Pokemon Switch games for a couple years, and wait for the install base to grow to a decent level? Nintendo Switch is a consolidation of handheld and console, so I don't think the wait between Switch launch and Pokemon games on it will be as long as it was between 3DS launch in early 2011 to X/Y release in holiday 2013.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

Maybe one more remake, but I think this will be

I have a hunch that they'll try to release another remake, or a third version.

It's not a good idea, but I can still see it happening.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Yes imho, Sun and Moon will be autoconclusive titles, Gen V could have been so I don't think there's any problem with that, besides it's clear they want to make something special for the 20th anniversary and that is likely a pair of titles that tell the whole story right away...

Sun and Moon will not be the last 3DS pokemon games, but it will be the start of the last generation. Black 2 & White 2 still came to the DS almost an entire year after the original 3DS was released, and i feel like Gen VII will follow the same course. next year we may see a third title for Gen VII or a Sinnoh remake on the 3DS. after that we may see a Pokemon game on the Switch, or more likely a new Pokemon game on Nintendo's next handheld
