Splatoon i can understand, that came out in 2015. But MK8 was a may 2014 game. So by the time the Switch is launched that would be almost 3 years.
My question is, what has nintendo been doing? it's not like they release like 4/5 games per year.

Well its all a rumor as of right now.

This is also true. They really should be able to have a brand new Mario Kart game next year. If the team are partially/primarily working on something new ( not mario kart), I'm not complaining.

The MK8 DLC probably set them back, otherwise yeah MK usually has a new entry every 3 years. I'd of course prefer a completely new game aswell (especially since MK8's mechanics n balance are not too good), but if this port has enough new content I could be satisfied with that too.

it has already been explained to you.
Wii U games are 720p or 1080p yet the Gamepad has a 480p screen. Just because Switch has a 720p screen does not mean games cannot be 1080p when displayed on the TV.

yeah, 3 years is enough for a new MK. maybe they're using the same engine? mario kart 8 looks great and with new hardware they can push the graphics a bit further.

I assume a big reason to offer a hybrid device is so Nintendo doesnt have to make so many redundant titles and can work on new IP.
By offering Mario Kart 8.5, it increases the chances of the MK team to work on something new and the last time this team made a new IP, it sold over 20 million (Nintendogs).

I hope these remasters/ports are are just to fill the release schedule and their existence doesn't mean that there won't be new games on those two series. If there's not Mario Kart 9 I will riot 
I mean, isn't half of every Mario Kart technically old already with the retro tracks?
Sounds like enhanced editions to me. I likely won't buy MK8, but there may be a small chance I do for SPlatoon, if the base moves over to the switch and if it has more customization like they showed in the Switch video.
