I thought remake, was to make it from the ground up?

Remaster is useing the (some of the) same texture ect, just in higher quality with the odd touch up to the textures most in need.

 

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD for the Wii U... that would be a remastered game right?

"Remastered" is modern day PR. Its essentially a port optimised for a system but released after the initial release (on a prior generation of platforms) which is where the "re" comes into play.

remake is something like wind waker, majora's mask or final fantasy 7

remaster is like the last of us or final fantasy x on ps4, just need a resolution bump and in some cases better framerate.

so if mario kart and splatoon have better resolution that would count as a remaster, with some extra content.

Remasters are nothing more than ports.
