Forums - Sony - So PS4 Pro will make games look better even on 1080p screens, but..

The PS4 Pro will be able to make your games look better on 4K TVs by increasing the resolution and doing some smart upscaling. Sony has released side by side comparisons between PS4 at 1080p and PS4 Pro at 4K, so those who have a 4K screen have probably noticed the difference if they have seen those videos.

Most people only have 1080p TVs though, so Sony have made sure the PS4 Pro will also be able to improve the image quality on those TVs as well. And a lot of people are excited about this and have pre-ordered the Pro because of this. But where are the side by side 1080p comparison of PS4 and PS4 Pro games, so we can see if there is anything to be excited about? I have looked thoroughly for those and haven't found any (not even screenshots). If any of you have found any footage, please post it, so the rest of us can see it.

If there aren't any such footage, then why? Is Sony afraid we might not be able to tell the difference? The Pro will be released in a week. Would be nice if we could see if there was a reason to buy it, if one only has a 1080p TV.

Thoughts?

Will be a case by case basis. Some games offer modes specifically tailored to 1080p, others do not. For games that simply "improve image quality" it's basically equivelent to really nice AA. Other games feature better lighting, reflections and more ground decoration which will be noticeable on 1080p displays.

Your best bet is to look at games you are interested in and see what enhancements pro actually gives. If it's a game that just recieves a resolution bump then you have to ask yourself if smoother edges or possibly going from sub-1080p to 1080p is worth it for you.

Lol.... in a week EVERYONE will know what those differences are.

And the last thing Sony themselves will be doing is taking comparisons of 1080p content of PS4pro vs PS4.

That's a literal fuck you to everyone that is out buying a PS4 right now. Keeping their press footage only to 4k enhancements keeps their messaging focused. PS4pro is for 4k gaming. PS4 is still great for 1080p.

Most launch games will simply be more stable, where they otherwise dip in FPS or resolution (BF1/Titanfall2) and have better AA or supersampling by the sounds of it, but heres one game that will actually have texture, lighting differences as well as a bump from 900p, to 1080p.

So Sony knows the PS4 Pro is kind of a fuck you to those who bought or are about to buy an original PS4, but if those people only realize after the launch of the Pro, then it's okay? That's kind of shady.

I'm 1000% more curious to put Bloodborne on and checking if there are no fps drops when doing some coop/invasions.

I guess 1 more week to find it all out :)

Thanks, you posted it while I was writing the previous comment, so didn't see it. Well there certainly is a little difference, but do you think we'll see a lot of these kinds of improvements in the coming years?

Same video as teigaga posted. But thanks :)

It's simply not going to be much of a difference. Even double the AA will be hard to see for the untrained eye. So when the difference to the upscaled 4k version is barely visible expect it to be even less on 1080p.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Let me make the general statements that PS4 Pro enhanced games on a 1080p televsion look better than games without enhancements on that same televsion. But a PS4 Pro enhanced game on a 4K televsion looks better than on a 1080p televsion.

Now remember when Sony first revealed the Pro, one of the criticisms was that Sony didn't do a good enough job conveying the quality of the Pro enhanced graphics. Part of that issue was that it's hard to show off 4K content on non-4K displays.  Sony's primamry push for the Pro is HDR 4K graphics.  So in my opinion, pushing a lot of 1080p Pro enhanced media might detract from the real selling point of the HDR 4K graphics.
