Remasters don't come at the expense of new games... There's a new 3D Mario in development already. This would just be a way to avoid droughts on the Switch and the bad press that goes along with it.

I wouldn't worry as much about droughts since they have both teams developing for the system

But having a remaster versus a new game, which would be more appealing and get better sales?

The polygonal detail focus on Metroid Prime Trilogy and Super Mario Galaxy makes a remaster a pretty easy thing to pull off, could focus almost exclusively on textures and lighting.

Pokken Tournament of course has a higher detail version already on arcades so yeah, that's asily done and would be perfect in the current atmosphere of renewed Pokemon interest.
