Forums - Sales - Was PS4 overshipped in FY16 Q1 (APR-JUN ) or simply having a lot of stock ( more than 2m ) is just a normal thing ? (PLEASE, YOU HAVE TO READ THE OP )

I was wanting  to make that thread since June but I chose to not make it to avoid a probable controversy, wherefore recently I saw that I can discuss that topic  peacefully, I finally decided to create it now...

Ps4 sold 40m as of May 22, and shipped 43.5m as of the end of June...

its shipments in that quarter seemed to me to be too high, taking into accounts some official sales numbers and that's why I initiated a research.

Tell me your opinion on this:

Ps4 sold 40m units  as of May 22, and shipped 43.5m as of June... How much did it sell between May 23 and end of June? More than 1m?

Vgc has estimated that  ps4  sold 177k units globally,  in the last week of May! Lets say that ps4 was  undertracked  a lot that week and sold double of that, ergo 344k.

It sold 230k units in the USA  and 106k in Japan in june, according to NPD and Media create, respectively.

Lets assume that sales in Europe were double of those in the USA, so 460k ( vgc has them at 344k) 60k  on Americas ( excluding USA ) and 100k in the rest of the world! See,  I'm being very generous with my sales assumptions.

That's an aggregate of almost 1.3m, which would mean 2.2m units on the shelves!

Of course, I have overshot in my sales assumptions, hence stock number could be somewhat higher.

I'm saying  that it could be overshipped, not that it is, since it might be normal for a sales beast like PS4 to have so much stock.

overshipped.... just before launching two new models (slim/pro)... I doubt it.

Ps4 is undertracked.

May/June is just before launching two new models. They'd probably started manufacturing the Slim by that point.

I READ THE OP AND STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT OK

Also, I'm not saying that is overshipped! I said that 2.5m on the shelves could be a normal thing...

Maybe because you don't like what is implying first and foremost...? It's just a comparison!

So you're saying they overshipped

and then overshipped again next quarter

Cause overshipping is something you do after you've overshipped

Next quarter overshipping is gonna be cu-reyyyyy-zee

I'm telling  that it could be overshipped ( not that it's overshipped )  in the FY16 Q1, not last quarter... Since you can't overship in two quarters back to back for obvious reasons.

I'm asking for the opinion of people based on the 40m ps4 units sold as of May 22 and 43.5m shipped as of the end of  June.

That's a reply to people that find irrational  current ps4 stock being 2.7m.

Then how would it not be overshipped last quarter in that case? 2.7m for October? The PS4 is gonna have a hard time breaking as little as 0.5M this month. Last quarter shipments can't possibly include Pro and holiday Slim bundles. What are those +2m PS4s gonna be doing sitting around in Nov+Dec. I don't see much more than 1.5M on shelves because that's all they need for October and early Nov, and there'll still be some left. They are bound to ship ~10M in the last quarter of the year, they have no use for that many on shelves at the end of September.
