I was wanting to make that thread since June but I chose to not make it to avoid a probable controversy, wherefore recently I saw that I can discuss that topic peacefully, I finally decided to create it now...
Ps4 sold 40m as of May 22, and shipped 43.5m as of the end of June...
its shipments in that quarter seemed to me to be too high, taking into accounts some official sales numbers and that's why I initiated a research.
Tell me your opinion on this:
Ps4 sold 40m units as of May 22, and shipped 43.5m as of June... How much did it sell between May 23 and end of June? More than 1m?
Vgc has estimated that ps4 sold 177k units globally, in the last week of May! Lets say that ps4 was undertracked a lot that week and sold double of that, ergo 344k.
It sold 230k units in the USA and 106k in Japan in june, according to NPD and Media create, respectively.
Lets assume that sales in Europe were double of those in the USA, so 460k ( vgc has them at 344k) 60k on Americas ( excluding USA ) and 100k in the rest of the world! See, I'm being very generous with my sales assumptions.
That's an aggregate of almost 1.3m, which would mean 2.2m units on the shelves!
Of course, I have overshot in my sales assumptions, hence stock number could be somewhat higher.
I'm saying that it could be overshipped, not that it is, since it might be normal for a sales beast like PS4 to have so much stock.
