As industry near sources have told Polygon, Nvidia® is about to join the console fray with its own unique take on consoles.
Previously attempting with its own line of Shield™ consoles and tablets Nvidia® decided to make a real effort and join forces with industry veterans to produce a console that would be able to take it up with current console main stays Playstation and Xbox which are helmed by Sony and Microsoft respectively. As the sources elaborate the rumored device "will try to bring something new to the table to distinguish itself from its closest competitors". having heard the latest specs of the device this might just ring true.
The most they can share right now is that it's supposed to be a 6.2" tablet with a new Nvidia® Tegra™ processor already known from its previous Shield devices as well as smartphones and tablets. Here is the kicker though. Customers will not only be able to play with their device on the go but will also have the ability to connect it to their TVs and play with it on their couch like a regular home console. To achieve this it comes with a stylish dock and detachable joystick controllers to use even while the tablet is docked.
To support their device in this hard fought industry they have joined forces with no other than Nintendo. A company probably best known for their Wii series of devices as well as a popular handheld line of products.
Nintendo is set provide the new tablet with the custom made Joystick peripherals as well as a custom OS made for a dedicated gaming device. The marketing will be shared equally between the two powerhouses of gaming.
While many companies have tried and failed to break into the console industry, we believe Nvidia is on to something here and with a strong partner like Nintendo and a truly novel concept sure to not just raise a few eyebrows.
The name is still pending but we have brought to our knowledge that the device will launch sometime March next year. A full reavile of the new Nvidia console is expected to be early next year.
