- No online subscription. No barriers to online play. Consumer has more cash for games.

- Free advertising/demos in the form of other gamers playing their game on the bus, train or at school.

- Simple and powerful LAN gaming solution. No dedicated servers to support or online connection required.

- System's mobility allows more gaming uptime. More games needed to meet demand. $$$.

- First party support at levels never seen before combined with the best track record of delivering new, breakout IPs.

- Custom joy cons and other accessories for niche software. Pedometers, GPS(?) for new types of gameplay.

Has free online been confirmed?

If devs didnt bother with previous handhelds that provided free adertising before, why would this change anything?

Maybe?

ok....

Surely this would be a problem for 3rd party devs since their games have to compete with mindshare of Nintendo games on a Nintendo device.

This sounds even more niche than something like VR.

This time, there's a second controller built-in. Yeh it seems to be a shitty setup but for a quick demo, it's fine.

You also get an instructor to help show you play if you're unfamiliar with the game which is better than someone trying to explain. DS download play was available on past systems but that requires more than one device.

Who'd rather play Mario Kart on their own when there's a second pad waiting for someone else to join in? Even if you'd rather play on your lonesome, your younger sibling and parents aren't going to let you now that there's no excuse to share.
