Forums - Gaming - Will Sony and MS copy the Switch?

Copy what? A tablet with controller nubs? Nintendo is already copying the Morphus. Why would Sony and MS, who make powerful high quality consoles copy a underpowered 720p tablet when they are moving on to 4k and HDR? It was one thing when Wii used motion controls to set the world on fire, but this? No. There's no risk of copying this.

I agree

Vita/TV means Sony kinda beat Nintendo to the punch on this whole idea...

Ssssssshhhhhhh. That's just Sony using their time machine again because they don't have their own original ideas. Like they copied Kinect for their Playstation Eye.

huh, that seems like a pretty original idea to me

They copied that from Nintendo too though. Except that Nintendo refuses to use theirs.

I think Sony and Microsoft have different ideas about how to take gaming to mobile.

Microsoft is making Xbox Play Anywhere, and it will work on all Xbox's, Windows PC's, and Surface Devices. This will give them Xbox games on PC, Console, Laptops, Tablets, and Phones.

Sony is going a very similar route to Microsoft. They are already expanding the PlayStation Ecosystem with PS4 Pro and PSVR this year. Going forward, the PlayStation 4 OS and Ecosystem will grow to even more devices. A PS4 based Tablet/Handheld will join the lineup probably next year to combat Scorpio and Switch, and a PS4 Phone will come at some point as well.

The only real difference between Sony and Microsofts stratagies, is the gaming focus. Sony is building an ecosystem around a single chipset, and making it extreamly easy for developers to scale across hardware. Microsoft is building gaming as an addition to a larger platform, but across a much larger variety of devices and CPU/GPU/APU's. Basically, they are two sides of the same coin, it just depends on whether you want to support a company that puts gaming first, or a company that sees gaming as a nice feature to have.

I think all three companies can carve out a very profitable base of users. Nintendo should start off well with the Switch. If they have a 4G model, then it will be a huge hit with kids, and likely replace a lot of smartphones for the 14 and under crowd. Then as long as they continue to build out the brand, and offer higher end and more portable versions in the years to come they will do just fine.

Sony > Nintendo > Sony.

Makes all of the sense.

I believe Sony may come out with something similar (which is nothing new, to be clear. It's like an iPod with attachable controls and a dock instead of AirPlay), but it will be marketed as the PS Vita successor, sure not as the PS5. Unless they want to lose loyal customers like me, sure.

Nothing about the switch so far seems innovative. It's really Nintendo moving on to the tablet gaming model. They're the ones adapting if anything.

LOL no.

They already have remote play which is basically the same concept as the Switch. Only drawback is that it requires Internet connection. Aside from that, I don't see much difference.
