Forums - Microsoft - Fable 2 is going to be the best RPG of 2008. Easily.

fable was a pretty good game...its to bad it failed to meet the huge hype it got.

Fable 2 will be one of the best rpgs of the year easily...hard to say it will be the best but i could easily see it winning

Owner of all consoles cept DS.....Currently in love with prototype!

First one was supposed to compete with Zelda. LMFAO. I bought it and played through. You start as a kid and grow up within 20 mins. The story and the game length were appauling. People get too excited for things that allow you to anywhere and do anything. RPG's require structure. Hopefully the 2nd will be much improved because it needs it. FF and WKC so far look more interesting and will no doubt sell FAR better. Shame because I would look forward to any rpg. Fingers crossed it turns out good but there are plenty of others that will step up if this isnt miles better than the first.

Your idea of structure and mine are obviously different.  I like the idea of being able to roam around an open world and explore.  Following a really good set story line is good too (Diablo II) comes to mind, but I don't believe structure=linear.  That's just one way to provide structure.  This may be why, as much as I like a good adventure movie, I still prefer a good adventure game... I get to participate in the latter instead of being a spectator.  To some degree, linear RPGs provide more spectator sport than open-world RPGs.

Let's just call it a matter of personal preference and get on with life.

fable 1 was good, but didn't live up to the hype. and I hope it isn't a zelda killer, I think after the first game zelda began to suck.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Starcraft, can I call you a hypocrite?

After all those posts saying why Killzone 2 will be average at best because Killzone 1 was average. After all those posts saying Resistance 2 won't be AAA because Resistance 1 isn't. Now you go and say that Fable 2 will easily be RPG of the year, even though Fable 1 has a lower rating than Resistance 1...

Smells like hypocrisy to me.

Fable has a metacritic ratic 15 points higher than Killzone.  Fable 2 has had nothing but positive hype, whereas killzone has seen a lack of info recently combined with rumours of mediocrity.

As for Resistance, I don't remember ever saying the second one would be anything less than excellent, though it will face stiff competition from other shooters.

Free speech exists, so you MAY call me a hypocrite, but it won't make it so:)

Well... the main reason i bought the Xbox was because of Fable, the other reason was Halo. Halo delivered, but Fable? Wow. What a piece of crap ⌐⌐
Now I read those old previews that even mention that when the hero spent too much time outside, you could get sick, and that your character aged. For every choice a consequence, If you got a battle scar it would be permanent, like if they fuck*d one of your eyes, they would eventually call you "One Eyed (ur name)".

I lol'd xD

Maybe if they refrained from hyping that crappy game, i would have been less affected by this lowish-mediocre game x)

Now, Fable 2 needs to prove itself, because I'm not falling for that bullshit again :)

Playing through Fable 1, I was VERY unimpressed, so I find it hard to believe that this one will be any better. But I have to, since it's basically in the same boat as Killzone 2. The first one sucked, so you want to believe the second one will, but I've been saying that maybe Guerilla learned their lesson, so maybe Peter Molyneux learned his also. Maybe this game will be full of win.

Metacritic:

Fable 85

Killzone 70

Fable's was considerably marked down due to "not meeting the hype."

Sorry DMeister but I fail to see the comparison.

True true... But Killzone didn't meet the hype either, it was supposed to be the 'Halo Killer'.

I'm not saying Killzone 2 will be awesome, but that you can't expect this game to be above and beyond what it's predecessor was, and not give the same chance to Killzone.  Yes, they were given low scores for two different reasons, but for you to say that Fable 2 > Fable 1 but Killzone 2 < Killzone 1 when they are basically in the same boat is all that I'm getting at.

But trust me, I do not believe that Killzone 2 will be anything but mediocre, as the first was.

The thing is, Fable was meant to be amazing because Molyneux said it was and we believed him.  Killzone was only meant to be a Halo-killer because Sony said it was.

Now Fable 2 Molyneux has been gagged, and the hype is being driven by games and the gaming press who have seen features that have actually been shown of the game in action.  Killzone 2 on the other hand, is all still Sony talk at this point.  All we have seen with our own eyes is that the graphics are good, but that the gameplay looks like your stock standard B grade shooter (granted, that would be a step up from the original).

In any case, for Fable 2 to leap up to being AAA, it needs to improve upon it's predecessor by 5%, but K2 would have to improve on K1 by 20+%, amid a climate of mediocrity rumours and overblown budgets and development issues.

Killzone 2 could easily get the "massively overhyped by publisher" tag that Fable got.

Thats just my point.  This in't developer hype, the game is proving itself to the gaming press this time, rather than us just having to believe Molyneux.

the game hasn't proven anything yet, that's his point.
