Forums - Microsoft - Fable 2 is going to be the best RPG of 2008. Easily.

it will be average, sales will be disappointing

mass effect will probably be the best selling console exclusive RPG of the 360's lifetime (assuming it stays exclusive)

The first one was excellent, the problem was that Moylneux made it sound like the second coming of Christ, so everyone was disappointed.

On this occassion, all the hype is coming directly from the gaming press who have SEEN the game with their own eyes.  It is also coming from gamers who have SEEN the new, unique, innovative features that Fable 2 has got over other RPG's.

Oh, and Mass Effect 2 will be exclusive and will sell FAR more units than Mass Effect 1.  Even so, I reckon Fable 2 will beat them both in sales.

Fable 1 sold 2.6 million on the original Xbox NOT including the "lost chapters" version and was the game of the year for many publications.  It did this on a smaller userbase than the 360 will have when Fable 2 launches, and a userbase with a smaller attach rate.

Fail.

Fable and Zelda are in entirely different genres. While it has taken a couple decades to come clean most gamers concede that Zelda is in no shape of form a RPG. Basically it was a bad classification, and giving it the honor of being some hybrid class was basically laughable. Zelda is an adventure title, and should be compared to other adventure titles. Otherwise you have to concede that Zelda as a RPG is about as piss poor as it gets.

When you look at it from that perspective Fable is a million miles beyond Zelda. I hope nobody misunderstands me I would love to see Zelda get some real RPG elements. That would add considerable replay to the games.

I doubt anything will kill Zelda anytime soon. Nintendo has played it safe with the series so much so you might say it is stagnant. I really did used to enjoy the series, but I am sick of the repetition at this point. Hell it doesn't look like its going to get any better until a game in the series bombs, and Nintendo is forced to innovate. That just isn't likely to happen, but as far as I am concerned just about anything kills Zelda at this point.

Nintendo already said the next zelda is going to be different. The reason why zelda doesn't bomb despite being only somewhat different of previous titles is , because there are always new hardcore games in the form of kids. That will be their first zelda experience , and then they will tell there friends about how good it is without  knowing that there has been a previous zelda game similar to it. That is why games that aren't innovative , but are in a good series still sell well. I imo just started to get annoyed with the repetativeness in some of the old nintendos ips. I just hope they change the next metroid, mario, and zelda to be something different, yet keeping the same quality. Zelda still doesn't get killed , because no matter how similar previous games are it is above quality on most games.

The original fable was all right but nothing special. Combat system sucked...real hard. I would actually preferred JRPG turned-based. There's no point in real-time combat but you can't make it good. Oblivion sucked because of that.

I didn't mind the combat system of Fable 1, but in any case Fable 2's system has been completely revamped and is fairly unique.  It's a single button combat system with one button for your melee weapon (of which there will be many), one button for your gun (of which there will be many) and one button for your spells (of which there will be many).

But don't worry if that sounds simplistic, as it will have a lot of depth.  The length of time you hold down your button will  effect the time it takes to attack, the type of attack and the force of the attack.  Additionally, there are going to be dozens of combos of different attacks.  Finally (and most wonderfully), when playing co-op (and another player can jump in or out ANYTIME) you can mix combos up between the two players for more damage and more experience points.

Unique? It sounds like Dark Cloud 2 to me.

''Hadouken!''

Fable 2 better than Bioware's Dragon Age or Mass Effect PC? I highly doubt it. The first Fable was barely decent and Molineux hasn't developed a great game in ages.

I think it's the only one that could compete with critics, but I don't think that that means it's a shoe in to be the best RPG of 2008. Many RPG fans don't tout Mass Effect as the best RPG of 2007, that honor goes to Persona 3. Could be just the circles I travel in (metaphorically....on the internet), but that's the general consensus I see. What this means is that any RPG, whether it's budget be huge or no, could be the best RPG of 2008. That goes for all consoles too, doesn't mean I'm writing off the 360 as getting the best RPG, I just don't think it's as easy a call as you're making it out to be.

Many RPG fans don't tout Mass Effect or Persona 3 as the best RPG of 2007, that honor goes to The Witcher. If you are an RPG fan, buy The Witcher and see what a great RPG is.

Yeah there are those of us, but it can't live of us alone. I just can't wait to see what they do with zelda wii. They better make it feel more different , but have it keep it's roots strong.

Not to count what PS3 and Wii are bringing out.

@ sc94...

Don't mention that turd. FF:CC isn't a good game and shouldn't even be mentioned as a contender.
