I sort of did this myself but in later playthroughs. :D Actually I outrun the swamp snake and level up in the forests near Fort Condor.
I've found that level 30 is the sweet spot to kill the snake.
You must have spent crazy time leveling up killing those weak enemies before the snake. :/

Hehe I remember in Final Fantasy 8 (little off topic) I found a bug that helped me in a simulair way, when you went in to the training area if you opened the ps1 disc slot and placed the last disc the enemies would be more difficult in the training area XD so you could become like level 70 training off the enemies replacing the disc from 1-2-3-4 haha, that was the best !

lol you could actually do that?

T-rexaur farming is my go to in the beginning of the game. :D Both in the Training Arena and outside Balamb Garden.

I never move the story forward until I defeat Diablo and get the GF. Now that I think about it, killing Diablo is like my killing of the Swamp Snake in FFVII.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Don`t they usually advise against levelling up too much in VIII, since all the enemies scale to your level?

I`ve defeated Diablo plenty of times without grinding at all, simply because the weaker you are, the weaker he`ll be

Yeah, monsters level up but it isn't a nasty situation like Final Fantasy Tactics where leveling up makes random encounters more difficult than the very last battle of the game.

Yeah, I don't grind for Diablo, I just don't move forward. Plus, the point is to get Diablo before grinding so that you can level him up as well.
