Blame PS3 and 360 for rising costs. And Nintendo is the savior with the Wii.

What a load.

The rising cost of games is because of rising development costs, which we all know. Since most games are developed on the PC, then ported to a console of choice, they will always be cheap, because any developers worth anything can develop on the PC. Nintendo Wii games can come out at Fifty bucks because it costs less to develop for the Wii, and for most multi-platform games that it shares with PS2, it's simply a port. Like Rock Band. The Wii version is a port of the PS2 version, but it still costs 170 bucks. And this version has LESS modes than it's next-gen counterparts... So, I think I just totally debased your whole argument Rubang.

To restate:

This has nothing to do with the XBOX 360 or PlayStation 3, it has to do with development costs on those two platforms, and the fact that people are willing to pay sixty bucks for games. Look at XBOX 360 software sales. Close to 2 million this week. Doesn't look like ANYONE is having a problem buying sixty dollar games.

You're fighting and supporting the same exact argument.  It's Sony and Microsoft's fault for having higher development costs, isn't it?  They price their games accordingly, but it's still their fault for rising the cost at every step of the process.  PS360 has budget titles at $50 while Wii gets them at $30 and $40.  Hell, Link's Crossbow Training is $20 and Wii Play's basically $10 with a remote.

@Mummelmann, damn, sorry to hear that.  I didn't know Norway was getting the shaft that bad.

lol.

Whatever.

Prices have gotten out of control. I will not pay more than £20 for a game because no game is worth more.

I highly recommend everybody here play Ancient Domains of Mystery. I've been playing the game FOR FREE for OVER TEN YEARS and still haven't beaten it, and I'm constantly discovering new free original content. The game was made by one man alone. It is amazing.

If one man can devote 14 years to providing an amazing free game, then fuck everybody else. If you pay for horse armor, you deserve everything bad in life. You can be playing ADoM for free.

When did I EVER say Wii was innocent of this?  To the contrary... $170 for Rock Band, $40 for Ninja Reflex ($10 on Steam).  That said, it's not guilty as often.

1`another thing thats outragous: dlc.

seriously, once someone stupid enough buys 10 rockband songs every week for 1.50, for the rest of the year, thats more than 5 games, or something. to lazy to do d math.

"$50 in 2000 has the same buying power as $61.47 in 2008"

games are actually getting less expensive.

I agree.

Weren't Atarii 2600 games $40 dollars new?  What would 1980's $40 be in compariso to today?

Games look much better, and through the course of time have stayed at a pretty consistenly low price, with a few exceptions along the way (Squaresoft games for SNES that sold for $70; N64 games that sold for $60)

Except that ignores all the other aspects of the argument like expensive DLC, ridiculous markups on special editions, costly online on something that should be free, the lack of price drops, and the comparison in price with games that have far superior features and content for less price...  Great reading comprehension there buddy.

The worst thing is is the fact despite increases in price many devs seem to have a taken a 'release now patch later' attitude which as well as resulting in lower quality is quite annoying, especially for those who can't get their console on the INTERNET. Content that should be in the game is made available as DLC which is wrong as 90% of DLC should be standard not an expensive extra.

The price of extra controllers etc also seems a bit too high. Take the wii wheel, $15 for a piece of plastic, what a joke, I could make my own cheaper.
