Gamers are the reason why it got delayed. The game would have been released if gamers were not asking for platform levels.

Good. Stick to your vision and release when it is ready. There are plenty of games we can play between now and then.
Damn, my brother and I were really looking forward to this one. We love couch co-op but so many games are going away from it. The art and dark humor is just our cup of tea...Can't wait to pick it up on PC.
| LivingMetal said: One of Xbox One's most anticipated games is delayed into 2017 Cuphead will now launch in mid-2017. Cuphead, the visually striking action platformer designed to look like a 1930s cartoon, will no longer release in 2016, developer Studio MDHR has announced. The delay is the result of simply needing more time to complete the title as the studio originally set out. "Hey everyone, we wanted to finish our game 80 years after 1936 but it will now be 81," wrote MDRH on its blog. "Throughout this year we discussed reducing the scope to make a 2016 release, but we made the difficult decision to delay the launch in order to ship with our vision intact. We are happy to announce that Cuphead will be coming to Xbox One, Windows 10 and Steam in Mid-2017."We are constantly humbled by your continued support. Love you all and can’t wait to get this to you. Without further ado, we will get back to work!" Back in June 2015 the studio announced the game would miss its planned 2015 launch and arrive for Xbox One and PC in 2016. This delay would allow the new Cuphead to be "so much better" thanks to Microsoft's help to push the art further and refine the mechanics. You can see how the game has progressed by looking at the videos below from 2014, 2015 and 2016 respectively.

Arghh, well I'm not very surprised with first plays coming out of E3, folks were saying gameplay was a little flat. The art style on this looks amazing and really was looking forward to it. Hopfully the delay will be enough.
