In summary, the bottom of the tablet is...well, a tablet. it's at the top where it gets interesting. With special technology, the braille writing is imimitated with liquid pixels that'll basically process what's going on in the tablet. Of course, it won't take thousands of years to do so. It does it rather quickly, being able to process 15 lines at once and even 'show' photos.

It costs $2,800, which is quite a lot. However, it'll slowly lower in price as the technology become cheaper. All in all, I'm quite excited.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

While any new technology like this is exciting, it's not as if there isn't already a tablet for the blind: many blind people already happily use iPhones and iPads, since Apple baked in first-rate accessibility features into iOS from almost the beginning.  There are already standard Braille readers on the market that form physical characters mechanically: this just happens to do the job with screen technology, which could have been done mechanically much more simply.  But it'll be interesting to see if new interesting applications arise from this expanded viewing surface, much like the transition from keyboard + screen to large multitouch screens enabled new modes of interaction.
