I wonder how many people are going to continue to comment on this without reading the full quote. He was talking about Forza Horizon 3.

I saw.  However 1) it doesn't change what I said and 2) he also brought up ReCore so I commented on that and 3) I haven't read the reviews of FH3 so I didn't want to comment on something I am unfamiliar with.

I didn't mean you in specifically or anyone in specific or anything. I just meant that there's more context to his answer rather than just "Anyone that gives the game a bad review is just doing it to get more views, don't take them seriously" or something like that because I imagine some people will just be coming in this thread and immediately calling Spencer out or something without reading the full quote and context of it.

Whether true or not, as a creator myself I find it really sleezy whenever a creator or representative of a creator tries to fob off criticism by categorizing them as somehow irrelevant. Let your fans defend you, you - as the creator - have a responsibility to observe and listen to criticism and respond with improvements or rational counferpoints. That's how art moves forward.

And as for ReCore, I can't say I see it for the most part since the dominant complaints seen that even lower scores of people who like the game (Jim Sterling for example) are technical ones and length, which are pretty objective things.

Giving 4/10 to Forza Horizon 3 is not criticism. It's bullshit.

The clickbait thing is obviously true, but I have to ask;

Were people so looking forward to and had such high hopes for ReCore that a low/mediocre score would even be click worthy?

Not a knock on the game, since I've seen gameplay and it looks like a fun but flawed game, but I'm genuinely curious. Monster games like CoD or major exclusives like Last of Us getting a low score might gather clicks, but.. ReCore? Is that the one you're going to make this argument for, Phil?

They were expecting it to perform "above average" so yes, something didn't sit well for it, thought it might just be the same complaint... loading times...

He used Forza Horizon 3 as an example, but he was clearly talking about Recore.

"I didn't try to tell anybody that it was a ten. I think we knew, as with any games, that there are certain things... if we started from the beginning and we knew what we'd get, there's a couple of things we would've done slightly differently. But we're very proud of how the game ended up. And I think seven, eight, nine, like anywhere in there is fine. Three or four... I mean somebody gave Forza Horizon 3 a four. I think there's certain reviews that are written more to get clicked on than they are to actually accurately reflect the quality of the game, and that kind of bums me out."

He was using the 40 that FH3 got as an example of a clickbait review. But he was most certainly talking about Recore getting clickbait reviews and insinuating that the reviews that gave it less than a 70 were clickbait. Which is bullshit.

FH3 getting a 40 is clickbait

UC4 getting a 40 is clickbait

Doom getting a 50 is clickbait

When a game has more reviews 50 or under than it does reviews 80 or higher? That's not the reviewers fault. The game just isn't very good.

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Dear Phil,

You were one of the better things that had happened with the year long debacle call the Xbox One. But even you are showing signs of the old guard. You're not gonna get the reviews you want for whatever reasons on any website. Get over it. This reminded me of Sony when poor Lair reviews were released. Phil, just don't go there, and all will be good. Remember, if you feel a need a justify, you're probably guilty. There are exceptions, but this clearly isn't the case. Bye.

Giving Phil is a person, I don't see why we're subjecting the guy to double standards when he's actually doing everything to give us more games. Remember, if a lot of new games die out, it will be because people like you weren't willing to overlook the corporate machine...

So Spencer thinks Recore is a 8/10+ game or.....?

52 or more critics on metacritic gave the game a mixed or negative review... This is just a bad attempt of defending the game by Spencer.

And others do the oppersite.
And Xbox / playstation related review sites are more likely to give higher scores.
System isnt perfect, but it works the same way for both sides.

I think it's mostly Nintendo sites that give higher scores. Just something I've observed.

"Somehing I have observed" that must be because you only see what you want to see, if you actually observe it you would realize many Nintendo games have been punished by Nintendo sites a lot of times when the game is not exactly what they were expecting, even Splatoon, a fundamental game for Nintendo, had several of its lower scores coming from Nintendo sites for the unusual lack of content:

Nintendojo: 75
Nintendo enthusiast: 75
FNintendo: 70

"Something I have observed" Yeah ...

Almost all user reviews rank it at around 78, so no, this isn't a bad attempt by anything. Critics did have something up their spine when they rated it if they are routinely rating a game lower than the players.

Some people thought it was the loading times, but rating those is insane. I don't rate loading times. I rate my satisfaction with the product. It's the same reason Vesperia 360 was an 8 out of 10 and Vesperia PS3 was a 2 out of 10 for me...

This thread title is the perfect example to prove Papa Phil right, lol.

Or those games are just not that good.
