Forums - Gaming - PSVR is heavier than Rift and Vive, but has the best ergonomics

Article at "Road to VR"... :

http://www.roadtovr.com/playstation-vr-weight-psvr-heaviest-best-ergonomics-oculus-rift-htc-vive-weight-comparison/

"Both the Rift and Vive end up putting a fair amount of pressure on your face. This isn’t ideal as the face is filled with muscles that like to move, especially in the cheeks and around the eyes. They don’t quite like bearing pressure either; poor placement of a headset on your face can hold the muscles in non-resting positions which is notably uncomfortable, sometimes leading to twitching. If you’ve ever squinted or opened your eyes widely while putting on one of these headsets, you’ll immediately notice the discomfort of having the muscles in your face unable to reach their natural resting position.

Sony’s approach is very different. PlayStation VR uses a ‘hanging’ style display enclosure which doesn’t rely at all on pressure from your face to keep it in place. Instead, the display hangs down from the structure of the headset while transferring a great majority of the weight to the top of your forehead (which, if you poke around up there a bit, you’ll notice has very little muscle compared to your face). From your forehead, the circle of the headset’s body wraps low behind your head to act as an anchor for the forehead section."

Neh, just like with the PC VR setups, I will be waiting for revision 2 before considering buying one. I shall fap on my Gear VR till then

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

I own the vive and don't find it uncomfortable, you just need to make sure the strap is snug and secure.

Really, I'd be shocked if the PSVR isn't the most comfortable, though, as the other two (especially vive with room scaling) are packing a lot more into their headsets. I'm actually pretty curious as to why it's so heavy.

Edit: I don't want that to sound too negative as I'm really looking forward to the PSVR myself (I think this headset will be the one to really pioneer the multiplayer VR experience). Still, the PSVR SHOULD be the most comfortable; it'd be rather absurd for it not to be.

It also looks a lot better, but i guess thats not all that important with a device that covers your while head.

You can always use some of these if it's too heavy for you

Might introduce some lag while moving around.

Cheaper solution for sitting down position

Ugh the irony, I got stung in my forehead twice by a wasp today, don't want anything sitting on there!
(Wasp got caught in my bicycle helmet, yay safety)

As long as my glasses fit comfortably under there I'll be happy.

Excellent news. It's all about the ergonomics!

lol I didn't really like the Swiss cheese look of the vive but apparently that's what enables the room scaling thing so I'll live with it. PSVR looks very cool, matches the PS4's aesthetic.

I think it's the band. It's plastic instead of fabric and it's weighted at the back to balance out the headset.

Edit: I'm very jelous that you own a Vive. It's awesome and I didn't find it uncomfortable when I used it.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Ah yeah a counterbalance can definitely be worth the additional weight. I really want to see the PSVR's library... hopefully there's a few AAA games in development, as there's really not many yet available. There's still some pretty cool games on Steam though, and with mods it can be used in existing games like Fallout 4/Skyrim/Alien Isolation/GTA V fairly well.

Hopefully more developers start taking it upon themselves to patch in VR modes for their games going forward... I know Bethesda is doing that for fallout 4 already.

Good God I hate wasps. The only bug i know of that'll sting you for no discernable reason. I kill the little bastards every chance I get, and take great pleasure from it. They're just a hair above mosquitos and horse flies in my book.

Aww, that sucks. I didn't reallize the Vive's moon craters actually serve a utilitarian purpose. I guess we're stuck with them for the forseeable future, then. But yeah, the PSVR looks pretty sweet. It gives off a sort of clean, utopian futuristic vibe that I really dig. It's still way out of my price range, but it's something I wouldn't at all mind having sitting on my desk.
